I just purchased a model 1920 savage chambered in 300 sav. for my collection. I haven't been able to shoot it yet but im really looking forward to doing so but for now I'm trying to find as much information on line about this model for my own knowledge and my scrap book. I know there were about 12 thousand manufactured and mine is an early 1920 model before the 20/26 revised models and so forth. If anyone has one or knows about them or were to look for more info about them and would like to share that would be awsome. Cheers

The M1920 evolved from an experimental military rifle that Savage designed during WW1. This rifle was .30-06, and incorporated the economy features that appear in the M1920. This rifle sort of resembled the 1903 Springfield. Nothing came of the project as far as military adoption went.
After the War, Savage realized that there was interest in bolt action hunting rifles, and the M1920 allowed for economical production.
I have a M1920 with low 4 digit serial in .250. It is semi custom, having been restocked, and fitted with a Noske scope in a side mount. The scope is 1930s, so the rifle wasn't new when the scope was fitted.

Lol, the sad part will be trying find one in 250-3000 also to add to the collection. They are a little pricey now a days but that is the fun of the hunt.

Very interesting thanks, mine also in the 4 digit serial #'s. Someone has modified this rifle with sling mounts and tapped the receiver for a marble S20 peep sight.. now that will be hard to find.
