I'm thinking of buying one in 12 guage x 30-30 Winchester. How do you select barrels on these new rifles? Is it side switch or a switch on the hammer? Does anyone have any experience with this gun? Opinions? I'm thinking this would be a handi gun to carry around on the front seat of the truck when calf season and bird season are open at the same time.

Best regards,

The selector is on the trigger.
-- HOLLY F--K, I'M LOSIN IT--
that should read HAMMER of course
A friend bought one new & had trouble with intermitent fireing on it! I believe he did get it fixed but on after 3 trips back to the company!
On the other hand it surprised me with it's accuracy!

Had a 24F 20ga/.22.........selector is on the hammer.

I do like the Baikal combo 12ga over .223, .308 etc with double triggers.......nice finish/balance, bit heavier than the Savage. And it's a double action as opposed to the Savage models.

Here's an easy way to remember guys.

The 24's made prior to 1964 have the side selector and any 24's made during 1964 and up had the hammer selector.

So if I were to buy one new today, would it have the selector on the hammer or on the trigger? Who has bought one new in the last year?

Current design has the selector on the trigger.

I have a 24F which I bought used, so I don't know its real age. Mine is .223/12ga, and I like it. The rifle is quite accurate, though unfortunately both barrels don't shoot to the same point of aim. Savage says there is no way to adjust this, so if you get a new one with this condition send it back right away and demand a replacement under warranty. As mine is secondhand I can't try this remedy.

Plus if it is made prior to 60 or so it has no serial # and a button select switch!

Could anyone reading me this thread tell me of a dealer from which I can order a new Savage 24F? I am thinking of getting at .22 Hornet / 12 ga model. Ellwood Epps has quoted me $809 plus 15% for GST/PST, plus about $25 shipping. They are great to deal with, but at that price I'd want to exhaust other avenues first. Regrettably, SIR first quoted $690 and then said that they cannot order it after all.

Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Frank
