I'd like to here some opinions from those who have used this gun.

1) Is it that much better than the axis to warrant the extra money ?
2) Accuracy ( I'm assuming it is typical savage in that regards ) ?
3) Is the trigger guard metal or plastic ?
4) How does the mag feed. I've read it can be fussy.

I haven't tried one of the model 25's yet as there don't seem to be alot of them in my area, but i will say anything that has an accutrigger is WAY better in my books than an axis. The axis was accurate, light, worked great, but the trigger pull was the heaviest i have ever come accross
 
I have a 25 with the thumbhole laminate stock and I really really like it.

MOST guns have plastic mags now and mine feels perfectly reliable, shoots really nice and has a good weight for varminting. Remember, this is a lightweight VARMINTER.. so not very light over-all but still has a nice heavy barrel for lots of shooting! The only thing I had to do was cut down the trigger spring to lighten the pull and that was fairly painless. I put a bushnell elite tactical on it and it's really nice being the guy at the range with the gun that everybody asks to check out.
 
Yes, but the accutriggers on these guns are only adjustable down to 2.5lbs. Might be more than light enough for most people but I cut mine down to about 1.5 I'd say.
 
The Model 40 single shot is built on the mkII action, the 25 is advertised as being built around the .223 case head.
 
I had one with a thumbhole stock for a year. It shot well enough with 55gn bullets, though I never tried it with anything heavier. I also lightened the trigger pull by cutting the spring, but I was shooting off-hand almost every week and it was too heavy for that. And I had an issue with two additional mags I bought from Savage, but they replaced them no problem. The original mag was perfect.
 
Call Savage. I think there's an 800 number on their site. They didn't show any in stock on-line, but when I called they were just like "how many do you want"? Had them in a couple weeks and shipping was less than the cost of one mag. Got my MkII mags from them, too.
 
I have the model 25 thumbhole stock version.
Definitely worth the money over the axis. I have my accutrigger set as low as it will go and I have been very pleased with it.
Mostly shooting 55 grain bullets with good accuracy.
The gun will shoot sub MOA at 100 yards when I use 62 grain and heavier.

My only complaint is the plastic mag. It looks like the feed lips are stressed when loaded to capacity. I don't know why Savage didn't make a metal magazine for these guns. (odd that the axis has a better magazine IMHO)
