savage model 64

I adore my 64's...I'm biased. My first .22 (and still fav) was a Cooey 64.

Things to know:
-Keep it clean...every 500-1000rds.
-Run it dry, lube only for storage/rust prevention
-They are fussy eaters...Opinions/experiences here vary. Mine hates Winchester ammo, others here have good luck with it. General concencus is round nosed ammo feeds best.

enjoy it. Same rifle in production for 50+ years means something!

I had a Remington 597 that I replaced with a Model 64. The 64 wins hands down over the 597 in every aspect. I shoot CCI Blazer through mine and never have any hiccups with that ammo. I wish I had bought one from the start.

i just put 1000 rounds of cci blazer through it along with some sub sonic. the rifle seems to shoot well out to 75 meters and it had no jams until i tried the sub sonic ammo. the mag though are really hard to load 10 rounds into though. this is a fun, cheap to own little rifle and my gf seems to really enjoy it. thanks for your input guys.

Bought mine used quite a few years ago never used it much until I joined the local gun club a few months ago. It was misfiring the second shot even with 5 or fewer in the mag. Cleaned it with brake cleaner as suggested on this forum, works much better now. I can take out 12" X 8" steel ram silhouttes at 100 Yds, once the season is over I will strip it down and give it a real good clean which it probably never has and was maybe the reason it was sold.
Overall I am very happy with it.

Have about 10k rounds through mine, gun is nice and accurate for what it is but the mags wore out fast on mine, the lips on them wouldnt holds rounds in after 5k rounds so they got replaced.
I found mags for a cooey that held up alot better then the savage ones.
Oh ya another thing indont like is no hi cap mags

I'm the same as 'camster', my first .22 was a Cooey 64 which I bought...............errrr..........42 years ago!

A couple of years ago I picked up a Savage 64-TR, put a Harris bipod on it and mounted a 'spare' scope I had on a .308 for a while before I upgraded to a NF!

I know I'll get flamed on this one, but my old eyes really like the scope, it's an Accushot 8-32X56!!!

I use the scope in the mid range settings when shooting, plus don't need to pull my spotting scope out when I take this to the range, I can dial it up and see my hits clearly at 100 yds!

I think it's a cool looking version of a fairly old gun, it's an accurate little gun that's a joy to shoot and cheap to feed. It seems to eat any ammo I load into it.
