Hi Guys,

EDIT - I found one - thanks guys for all the helpful comments!:)

I've become very interested in the Savage model 99. :)

I'd love to find one in .250 Savage; but I don't know if this is reasonable or not...obviously they are out there, but is anyone likely to sell me one?

Your thoughts? - Thanks, Jeff.

Depends what you're willing to pay. I have a 1914 production 250/3000 Take Down that I purchased from a board member a year or two ago for $400 or $450 as I recall. It's not collector status, but is still a neat little piece. The slower 1/14 twist in the older ones ( up 'til the 60's at least) means they don't handle the longer bullets well.

Twist rate changed in 1960. Pre 1960 will sometimes shoot ok with 100 grain bullets but not always. Post 1960 will shoot 100's just fine--and usually the 117's ok--120's are iffy.

Every once and awhile Epps has a used one up for grabs, check out their website, just watch for their rating as to condition.......nuf said about that....for those with fast twist barrels..M.T. Chambers offers a 130 gr. flat pt. gc. hard cast bullet that works well in my 25/35.

they are out there....just last year I got a 1960 vintage '99 10" twist 250 Savage from the Maritimes...sold it to a local friend who took it out and shot a very nice WT and a mulie buck in Camp Wainwright....then he sold it....keep your eyes open,..it's in Edmonton somewhere....Gunshow this weekend....

Where in Alberta are you Jeff?
In Edmonton there is a store down town called "Uncle Eds Exchange" I think. The last time I was in there they had a couple or 5 Sav. 99s down stairs.

I go to the Bud Haynes auctions in Reddeer every once in awhile and there are occasionally 99s there. I have two in .300 sav. and love them.

Thanks Robin/Duffy...I've got one on it's way to me already - but I'll stop by Uncle Ed's anyway. :) I am in Edmonton.

Thanks a lot - Jeff.
