Savage Model 99- Odd Calibre

I saw one at Corlanes in Dawson Creek a few years back, but some donkey had sawed a couple of inches off the barrel (I mean literally hacksawed, and rough dressed with a coarse file!). I think they were still asking $375. Seems to me it had a sort of a beavertail forend with no checkering and rather plain wood. I don't recall if it had a rotary magazine or not.
At the same time they had a rough-but-restorable Win. 88 in .358 for $400, that I'm still kicking myself for leaving behind.

I've seen a couple over the years. 375 is a relatively uncommon caliber in a 99. I've seen more 375's then 284's though, but that may just be demographics. It is a good hunting caliber, particularly in bear country. I have a 99 in 38-55, the 375's predecessor. - dan
Yep not real common, I have seen a couple, the .375 although a fantastic eastern deer & bear cartridge, never did catch on. I bought a new Marlin 336 in .375 back about 1985-90. It shot beautiful. I now hunt with a 99 in 38-55 & shot another deer with it again this year 
. If your handloading for a 38-55, you can come with-in a 100fps of the 375 with out pushing the old girl.
If I was offered a 375 at a reasonable $$ I'd be hard pressed to turn it down, unfortunately it has become some-what of a Sav collectors item & tends to go for a good buck.

I've got one. I actually hunt it even.
Once a 99 goes over the one million mark I don't consider them collectibles anymore so I hunt my tang safety guns.
Picked up a nice 8 point buck and a doe with it last year.

Naw, that picture was taken back at camp when we got back. That gun is unloaded. I just took it back out of the camp for some pics before I hung the deer up on the game pole. You can barely tell but those two deer are already gutted. You can see a couple of the white patio chair legs in the pic that are around the fire pit.

Absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating a nice pair like that.
Besides a picture proves nothing. He could have had the empty out to target practice the gun after missing the ten pointer that was with these two.

.375 is quite rare--if it is in very good or better condition it is worth a premium on the collector market. Contrary to what Joe says (hanging out with Jed too much) there is a market for rare variations even post mil amongst collectors.
