Savage Model 99

savage 99

Got me an 1899 savage 303,Peep sights, wood ok extof barrel is a little rough. But this thing is tight and takes crows apart at 100yds.Excellent short range gun and I can manhandle that lever action and it is always up to task.Light and damn handy in the bush, done the rifleman thing a couple of times. My brother has a 99c also loves it.These guns have never let us down.

A gold trigger means it's either a model C, DL or an F. They started getting gold triggers about the same time Winchester started putting theirs on them. 1960 and above. Definitely a post one million serial number, not a real collectible but a sure fire hunting rifle. I just nailed an 8 point buck with my 99 in 375 Winchester and dropped him like a rock with it. I've seen 308's and 77mm mags do more damage than this gun did to the deer.

Maddog, I have a question. My serial no is 117542x. Can you tell me how old it is? I think from the looks it is one of the newer ones but hard to tell. Not likely to sell this one. Fun to shoot and extremely good fit for me. Thanks.

Western Gun Parts had lots of used, new and aftermarket stocks for the 99s too. I asked about it as the forestock on mine has a chew in it. I may just shape that out though but I will have a look at how close the end is to anything important before that. Pretty friendly folk and respond to emails quickly. They have clips used and new too.

Bogie, your gun was made in 1968.

Post-mil rifles have tang safeties like yours except for the model E's which retained the lever safety through the years.

Pre-mils were a better made gun but I hunt with the post-mils myself.
