Two months after two auctions they showed up on the same day. The complete one is quite usable, SN 261. The project, SN 1819, is good shape what's there. At least I have the parts to copy. Looks like fun. I'd like to have one for each hand to unload. (See how co-ordinated I am.) They sure are awkward buggers.
 
they are surely one of the most impractical handguns I have ever owned. If the toggle link is not completely straight, the cylinder will recoil back slightly and bend the hand or after a couple of time break it.

These things are all .36 cal. And I think both hands are replacments. Does anyone remember where they left the other parts? Mooncoon, do you shoot your's?
 
I had to rebarrel mine because the original barrel which came with it was total trash; actually soldered together from two pieces. They are supposed to be .36 cal but appear to actually be .38 cal (I used a .375 barrel) because the cylinder mouth is roughly .40 cal if my memory is correct. It seems highly unlikely that mine was manufactured as a .36.
I shot mine a few times but was suitably unimpressed with the accuracy and now keep it as an interesting piece of history. The hand was broken on mine so I made a new one which I promptly broke and have not felt inspired towards making another one.
The guns are particularly interesting from the point of view that the cylinder indexes on the end of the barrel (cylinder mouth is recessed) which gives a very positive indexing compared to the cylinder stops found on practically all other revolvers

Great looking and interesting arms there!!
How do they work?
Is the mechanism a type of double action?? or is one trigger to rotate the cylinder??

I like the nipple placement on the cylinder, looks to me it would nearly negate the possibility of jam ups due to cap fragments "a problem that happens frequently on my old 1860"

It looks like I have added another old horse to my want to buy one day list!

The bottom ring cocks trigger and rotates cylinder. The cylinder pulls back about .25 af an inch to rotate because cyl. locks up to barrel.

there is a sort of toggle linkage vaguely like a model 73 winchester, that draws the cylinder back. The hand is linked to the toggle assembly. The weak point is that if the toggle is not out completely straight when you shoot, under recoil the linkage starts to open which starts the hand moving while the cylinder is not rotating. The good point of the gun is that the cylinder indexes on the back of the barrel (recess in the cylinder front). If the hand was independant of the toggle assembly there would not be a problem allthough you still need very strong hands to shoot the gun double action
