Got this one today as a sporter and was planning on restoring it with a set of LB furniture and hardware I have kickin around. 1942 savage, FAZ FTR'd in 47 with a LB bolt that looks to have been forced matched during the FTR(serialized to the receiver). I didn't know that Savage made the earlier non star version, although I should have guessed given Longbranch did too. It's kind of cool. It has a nicer finish and much nicer stampings. It also has a 6 groove barrel. Anyone know any more about these?

I read in Skennerton that some early savage No4's used 6 groove savage made barrels because their plant was already setup for it. They quickly changed to 2 groove.

Long Branch only made a small quantity of No.4 MKI, but on the other hand Savage produced a large number of them before introducing the No.4 MKI* into production.

I have had a couple MKI Savage's. They don't command a premium over a MKI* as a Longbranch would, but they would have seen a lot of action which is appealing to a collector.
