I'll be buying a new big game rifle for next season in .300 WSM (please - no suggestions of any other calibre). I've been out looking at some of the Savage and Sako rifles. I really like the Sako 75 Stainless Laminate but can't get the idea of the Accutrigger outta my mind. I've heard so many great things about the Savage rifles recently, that it seems to be the "best bang for the buck". I'm told that the Savage service is also first rate. Would anyone like to comment on either of these two rifle manufacturers?

Go with the Sako. It has an adjustable trigger. You will not be sorry. I love my SS 300WM. If you want to save a few $$, buy the 30WSM in a Tikka T3 Laminate Stainless for about $600 less than the Sako. This way you can spend a few more $$$ on a better scope (Leupold VX3 w/ BC reticle would be my suggestion.) The Tikka also has an adjustable trigger (2-4 #). I have 2 T3 LS 270WSM, and love them (1 for the wife, and 1 for me). Great shooters out of the box.

The Tikka also has an adjustable trigger (2-4 #).

Not only does the Tikka have an adjustable trigger, it's in fact the exact same trigger as the Sako 75 and probably the best feature of the Sako 75 aside from it having 5 action lengths.

The T3 is one hell of a bargain as well as the Savage. I think the Tikka T3 is a bit better quality than Savage products. I really like the Sakos but think they are over priced with all things being equal.

If you are on a limited budget then I suggest the savage with the difference in price, plus whatever you were planning to spend on a scope, going towards a nice Swarovski scope.

I was in the Tikka/Sako decision process for a while, but decided the Sako would have to wait. The tikka is made by sako, and is still a quality gun for 1/2 the price. My .300wm tikka performs better than I hoped,(or I performed better). Anyway it shoots 1" groups at 200 yds with elite 3200.

good luck

go to local gunstore and shoulder a tikka t3 lite then the savage. i think you will go home with the tikka. i like my t3 so much i just traded for another one in 7 08.

Without any doubt, go for the Sako. Comparing a Savage to a Sako is like having to choose between a '92 Chevy Cavalier and a brand new BMW... They both shoot, but if money is not a matter, don't hesitate, go for the better things in life!!!

The Sako carries a premium due to their qaulity, design and reputation. If your on a limited budget, the Savage will do assuming it has all the features you are looking for - the same applies to the Sako. With the mone you save on the Savage, you could go to some premium optics (with the money saved) an area which is generally very overlooked.

IMO you're hearing so much about the Accutrigger because its such a vast improvement over what Savage had prior to its introduction. Sako, on the other hand, hasn't had huge media coverage of its trigger system because they don't have a new system, they didn't have a crappy trigger to begin with.

That being said, Savage must build a pretty good product these days, almost everyone who's tried a new Savage seems to be raving about them.

Sako made all of my rifles. I prefer the design of the stock, the balance of the rifle, and the obvious superior quality over almost everything else I've looked at. However, I'm now broke.

Sako and Savage represent very different price points and significantly different quality. Tikka offers an excellent value, that you should compare with Savage.

I like Savages the way they shoot,i would bet the savage would shoot right alongside the Sako but if your not worried about cost go with the Sako they are sooooo nice.

I thought this thread was a joke, apparently not.
It's like comparing regular ground beef and the best ribeye in the world, if you eat a pound of both you are full, they are both beef, but that's as close as the savage/sako comparison.

You can't go wrong with a Sako. But for that kind of money that's how it SHOULD be. True you'll spend a LOT (!) less on a Savage and it will PROBABLY shoot sub MOA right outta the box. That will still leave you PLENTY of $$ to put a top quality piece of glass on it.

Geez, I don't think I've seen a Sako vs. Savage thread here before... ;)

if you have the cash SAKO ALL THE WAY.......
they are way nicer in almost every way and the trigger is just as good a the savage.
talk to ya all later
Riley

Savages are nice but best bang for your buck in my humble opinion is the Weatherby Vanguard $499 much better then the Savage combo if thats what u were looking at. Never looked at a Sako mainly cuz my heart couldnt take it:eek:

Geezuz.. it's like comparing a Pinto to a Lincoln.
If you want the best buy the Sako... if you want value buy a Tikka!
Accutrigger.... Ha!... POS! Both the Sako and the Tikka will shoot rtings around the Savage out of the box... and the triggers are far superior in every way.
