Savage or Browning

Hey guys I'm new to the board and got into hunting for the past three years "no success". I am going east for a hunt with a friend of mine and looking to get a good 30-06 bolt action but again "bang for your buck" and need some help. I am currently looking at the savage xp versus the browning x-bolt, cabelas has a deal with savage with the scope but the browning doesn't. I'm new to rifles too, I bought a 308 remington semi but was disappointed so this is why need some advise from the forum.

Most likely it will be my all around gun for deer season and moose.

Thanks

I am a die hard Browning fan but I have always shopped aroundwhen looking for a new rifle or shotgun. I have a Browning X Bolt in a 243. I'm very pleased with it. I also looked at a Savage before I got the X Bolt. I found the savage didn't have a lot of room between the bolt and the scope when working the action. It really crowded my fingers. The post recommending not to be embarassed to put a a gun through its paces in the store was spot on

I just recently bought a new 30-06 and it came down to the Savage, Tikka T3 and the Browning X bolt, and after putting them through their paces like mentioned above, I just liked everything about the browning more than the other rifles (other than the price). It's BEAUTIFUL to shoot, probably the best recoil pad on any factory rifle ive seen and just feels so nice to shoulder. I let a guy shoot it that wasn't in the market for a new rifle and he's looking for a new X bolt now..

a higher end savage would be better then an XP, The browning is really nice, both are a good bang for your buck. If you go with the cheap savage, get a decent scope, the ones that come on them are junk

I have never owned an X bolt, I do have two other Brownings and am looking at another, I have owned 3 Savages and now own none, so one more vote for Browning.
