Savage or Remington?

i believe savage is the best bang for the buck out their rite know.they seem to have rifle for all classes of shooters for every budget.from computition to just having fun intry level.Darin

Your comments regarding the Remington action mirror exactly the comments of my gunsmith. I'm being told to go with the Rem as well, far easier to upgrade if the long distance bug really bites.

Back to the two specific rifles mentioned in the OP: both of these rifles have 20" barrels - is this "enough" barrel to achieve accuracy out to 600 yds? By accuracy (not sure if it's the proper term to apply) I mean is the barrel long enough to both stabilize the bullet and efficiently burn all of the powder to be "accurate"? I'm looking to start with an "off the shelf" rifle and upgrade as my skills develop and I'm seeing other brands/models in the 22"/24"/26" lengths. I understand both of these models are "tactical" and not full-on target rifles but will the shorter barrel affect anything other than a few fps?
 
I have several Savage and Remington rifles. I like them both. They each have their pro's and cons. I don't spnd thousands of bucks to put holes in paper. I sight them in then hunt so if I hit the left ventricle when I was aiming for the right, it still puts food on the table.

Shilen is also one of the largest, if not the largest, producer of prefit match barrels for the Savage. When you spend that much time making the stuff, eventually you have to ask 'how well can it work?'.

Very well indeed - so off they went to make their better mousetrap.

They too have found the use of a floating bolt head and barrel nut headspacing offers lots of positive options for accurate fire. Yes, these actions will be geared to SR BR where Shilen has very strong roots.

Essentially, the parts that handle the ignition and pressure of the case firing mimic the Savage.

however, they added a twist which I fully concur with. the exterior is shaped a la Rem 700 with the same bolt spacing so access to the huge range of stocks is simple.

Then they made the trigger housing to fit all those wonderful Rem triggers like the Jewell.

Mag well for the repeaters also is Rem styled so all the bottom metal options are available.

So the action is really a hybrid - from the mag well back, all Rem. From the mag well forward all Savage

Best of both worlds.

out of the box, savage, for upgrades remmington, both shoot great. If you want something just to shoot and not mess with Sako TRG
