I dont know which would be the better route to take guys. I was planning on getting a Savage 12FV in 243Win but I was told from all the places I called that it could very well take up to a year to order this rifle for me. So I was flipping through S.I.R. Mailorder's catelogue and was looking for another rifle in 243 with a heavy barrel for a decent price and I came up with the Remington 700 VLS. I figured that I was gonna replace the stock on the Savage anyways so its kinda of a bonus and makes it kinda work out to be around the same price if I were to get a nice laminated stock anyways.

I was just wondering what you guys thought about this? Wait for a long time and save some money on the savage or get the remington now?

Thanks

i have a 700 VLS in .308 Win. and it is deadly accurate....1/2" groups at 100yds. with cast bullets.....I assume you are looking for a varmint rifle as it is a bit heavy for anything else!!

Yeah lol, varmint and target mainly and posibly deer if I wana hunt some been feilds or something then I dont have to move much with it. As long as I can get a good trigger job done on it I have heard that remington 700 rifles have very heavy triggers from the factory. Is 794.99 NIB a decent price for these rifles?

Oh, since you mentioned cast bullets I am assuming that you hand load... I however do not, and was wondering how your .308 shoots with factory loads?

Sorry Dime: My 700 has never had a jacketed bullet put through it,like all my other guns, cast bullets only!!!

Go with whatever suits your needs in your price range. I like the accu trigger but i lightned up my remmy's and it shoot liks a dream. One thing a connot comment on is how long the throats are on a savage, but remingtongs are LOOOON so you have to seat shallower to touch the lands or get the barrell cut so they can feed from the mag. This debate will go on forever, but you gotta decide twist rates for calibers and what you intend on doing with it.

I've got a few Remington HB rifles... and all are very accurate... BUT I've been pining for a Savage Model 10 LE with the 20" heavy barrel. I know a few fellas that have 'em and they are all tack drivers. Would like to get one, too.;)

I would have agreed on the Remington up until a few years ago on extra's, but now there are just as many extra's available for the Savage. In my opinion, you can't beat Savage for the $$$. Look at it this way, Savage has a heavier barrel and the accu-trigger is great.

There's a reason the Remington's are still on the shelf! ;) Savage rulz !!!!!:D (yes, I'm a Savage owner!) Absolutely the best factory trigger on the market.

Savage again

Finally got to play with my bvss this summer. 3 bullets one hole more than once and with several different loads. The accu trigger is by far the best I've ever tried from a production gun.

Shot both the remy and the savage. Savage is better shooter off the shelf, however, that being said give the remy to a compitent gunsmith and have a "Wee Bit -o- tweaking" and it will be the shooter.

Either way, depends what you want out of the rifle. If you want an off the shelf rifle and never plan on having work done then I would suggest the savage, (cheers from the savage crowd)!!! If you plan on getting it "smithed" a little then get the remy, (and the remy crowd roars)!!!!!!!!!

Cheers

Thanks alot guys for the quick posts, since I dont handload does either rifle shoot factory loads better?I want to get into reloading but I cant afford the equipment right now and no place to put it all :p . Yeah, are the triggers hard to adjust on the remmy 700's? It looks a little complicated, but that maybe because I have never done it before lol. I would get either rifle bedded and make sure the barrel is free floated along the entire length and such. I wont be competing with the rifle but i still want a high degree of accuracy. You know what i mean?

LOL from what i have seen already this is a touchy subject :p

thanks again for all the help

remington triggers arent hard to adjust down to 2 lbs, lots of instructions on the net

touchy subject because on one side you got the good guyz and on the other side you got the guys with the crappy ugly Savages

Crappy ugly Savages or those god awful Tikkas with the hollow plastic butt stocks that sound like a kids water gun when you tap it!!! Couldn't they have at least filled it with foam or something so at least it would float if you dropped it in the lake? I would imagine it would crack in very cold weather. It reminds me of a Chev. Avalanche...cheap plastic junk!

I've owned both a Remington Police and savage Tactical .I hated the Remington it wouldn't shoot worth a #### and then the stocke cracked at the top of the wrist.my savage shot very well and the ugly plastic stock never let me down plus there are other stocks available now for them. I have sinse 1994 used a SS Savage target rifle in .223 which I use out to 800yrds at Winona the damn thing always performs .and yes i do have some proplems with wind but i know how to fix them !!.
