savage or tikka

Wow,that was easy, thank you for your response everyone .I was leaning towards the tikka myself,it sure is nice to have the input from people who have shot both.

This is my plan

Tikka T3 syn/ss .308
Bushnell Elite 4200 Firefly
Optilock base & rings

Thanx again,Jamie

I don't know if you've ever looked thru a firefly reticle, but it is pretty thick. I don't like it at all. Check it out before you buy.

I put Talley's on my T3's also.

Prosper....One can only assume you have never felt the trigger on a T3/Sako 75 if think the Accutrigger is crisper and lighter. I IN FACT do own both like I said and I'm not BS'ing like you suggested.

Explain to me the purpose of the pre trigger or what ever Savage chooses to call it since you are an authority on Savage's.:p
I agree totally with Booners take on this.. talleys are exellent and light.
And I have shot dozens of accutriggers and even more Tikka and Sakos. I would never own an accutrigger they are an abortion of a trigger group and they feel terrible compared to real good trigger.

This is also a valid appraisal of the firefly reticle.... They are thick and they are not my first choice... far from it. You would be better off with a Luepold rifleman or better yet a VXII!:)

I vote Tikka if you don't tinker. I shoot both, the Savage needed to be bedded, the syn stock is very flexible the crown iffy. The Tikka was nothing more than mount the scope and shoot, very accurate (1 MOA with factory ammo). If you do enjoy tinkering, buy the Savage and change parts, calibers, etc as much as you want. For my experience, the amount of money I spent on my Savage to make it shoot like my Tikka, ended up $100 more the the oringinal Tikka price.

The Accutrigger is the last trigger choice for me in very cold weather. I ran into problems with mine coyote calling when it hit -30. Mainly my gloved finger touching off the trigger before that dumb pre trigger was suppressed. Then you hear that big click and you can't fire till you re work the bolt. By then Wiley is long gone.

Can't go wrong with a T-3.
Here is a little 3 shoot group I did today with factory loads, (Remington Express Core-Lokt PSP 180gr) at 100yards.

100 yards.

Must admit that was my best group of the day. On my other groups I'd get one of my 3 shots off by about .5-.75"... It was still quite acceptable considering the wind we had.

Now I just gotta do the same with a 5 shot group:):)

dddddddd

I just picked up a savage American classic in walnut, I sold my sps remington to get this, it is absolutely a great rifle,in my opinion way better than the rem, not sure on the tikka , the bolt moves like its on ball bearings, great fit and finish very cool gun for the money

^ Good on ya! Savages are a well kept secret - mostly because people have a hard time accepting that such an inexpensive ugly rifle can out shoot thier baby that cost them twice as much. Hell, I'm surprised my Stevens shoots so well - I bought it as the basis of a new project gun, intending on re-stocking it, putting a new trigger and barrel on it. But after I took it to the range and shot 1-hole 3 shot dime-sized groups (after working the trigger over), I'm not so sure I want to mess with a good thing

Very nice group Goose25.

What caliber is your Tikka?

I also have the T3 30/06 stainless, but i print larger groups (1 inch). I'll give 180gr Rem a try.

Thanks!

Tikka T-3 SS in 30-06. I might also add an aftermarket (limbsaver) recoil pad to make it even more of a pleasure to shoot. I have a Bushnell 3-10X40mm uptop.

it has a "slip on" for now. I took it off the .270WSM... that .270 kicks hard for some reason...
I rate it a 8 out of 10, ( 8 for function, -2 for looks).
I was shooting a bunch of reloads I made.. looking for the most accurate... and it was really taking a toll on my shoulder.. most of the time I dont have one on it.. just the one it came with.
