Have any of you folks had any experience or even seen a "Savage Predator Max 1". I have been thinking about getting one of these but have not been able find one to look at.
I have one and I must say I AM impressed with it. Mine is a 243. It is a consistent shooter with very tight groups (less than 0.5" MOA). The impressive part was I traded a Remy 7600 (which also was a good shooter) for this one due to headspace (handloading) issues. I had a Burris scope mounted on it and with 70 grainers, at 300 yards, it was consistently shooting just above the 300 yard "reticule".
With the Savage, 300 yards ranges in at the 200 yard reticule at just over 1.5" groupings. Like WOW, that really impressed me. The rifle is a little heavy, but comes with the accu-stock and trigger and camo to boot.
I kinda like the short action of the bolt as I can stay focused on the target and extract/chamber a new round without removing my line of sight at the target trough the scope. I still think the profile of the bolt is butt-ugly, but one that I can certainly live with given it's performance right out of the box.
Thanks fellas for your replies. I presently have one of the new M-70 featherweights in 243. It is decent shooter but not as good as what you describe of the Max-1.
Probably I should just order the Max-1. It definitely won't be as pretty as the M-70. But then I could have the best of both worlds if had the pair of them in the cupboard.!!
