Savage Preditor

This rifle caught my eye last Fall, but I haven't bought one yet. I wanted the snow camo one in .223 which IMHO would make an ideal varmint rig. I find Savage's to be great value for the money & very accurate to boot. I've read that the included scope is an el cheapo, but it could always be replaced.

Too much $$ for what you're getting. It's a Stevens with a camo job and a cheap scope for $800.:)

^^ No it has the Accutrigger, heavier barrel and Mambo bolt handle. The cheapo scope and mounts etc. keep you going until you have the dough to upgrade. .223 isn't likely to blow up the worst of scopes for a long time.

Still say its a gimmick. The 200 is accurate enough without a heavy barrel. So that leaves the accu-finger and bolt handle for an extra $500?

You could put in an aftermarket trigger and bolt handle for $200 and have lots of cash left for a QUALITY scope...

The lighter barrel on the Stevens will heat up and temporarily warp much quicker than the barrel on the predator so factor in the cost of a new barrel plus RnR if you're not a do-it yourselfer. Then you gotta paint the whole works. I guess the market will decide if she's a gooder.

Shooting enough rounds at a coyote to heat the barrel in winter?? It is snow camo...;)

For $800, I'd rather buy a Tikka Varmint...:)
