Savage Rascal Laugh

I think they had one in stock here at Cabelas Winnipeg. There was something at the back of the group of Rascals that looked to be some sort of pinkish camoflauge.

Thanks for the info!
I have time, I buy each kid a gun when they turn 8.

I bought one for my granddaughter and for my hunting partners daughter, great way to get girls into the shooting sports.Excellent for the purpose intended, getting kids involved

Bought a green one for my son shortly after his second birthday. We've been doing dry drills with it ever since. He's getting there and when he shows enough responsibility we'll get him live.
Added a Slogan Outdoors "rubber" sling to it, put some "emergency" rounds and a firestarter in the butt, not too much so you don't really notice a weight increase. Forget it's there unless you need it kinda thing.

Love that little gun and thought of getting one for myself to strap onto a pack when carrying a full sized rifle. Still might, but I figure he'll eventually grow out of it into something bigger and I'll start using it at that point. For now it's HIS gun and that's that.... just ask him, he'll let you know.

Been debating putting a small scope on it for him or even a little red-dot. Yet to make a decision on that.

I always wished savage would build one in a repeater.
Anyone know of something similar sized in a repeater?

I agree. If they made them with a magazine they would be even better.

Maybe a dummy mag with the red ramp for single shotting, or use the real mag when the kids get bigger.

So, while as Cabelas waiting for my Eley ammo to come up front, I was just tire kicking a couple of rimfire rifles. Then it happened. I always wanted to see or handle a Savage Rascal. So, I ask the guy if they had any and could I see one. He takes a step over, picks up this gun and hands it to me. I look at it and laugh. The stock is tiny, and well, the whole thing is very small. So I had to ask if this was a 'salesman sample', to which he says, nope that is the actual rifle! Damn did I get a good chuckle. So, I now see why some carry these as a truck or backpack gun. So, I will be saving up my change and watching for a good sale and my just pick one up. If I do, it will be the cheapest one there is just for fun. I have to say though, teh sights do look very nice though, probably worth as much or more than the rest of it.

The gun is designed for young children that are first learning how to shoot and handle a rifle. It fits small people properly so they aren't trying to learn on a rifle that is longer than they are tall and weighs too much for them to hold properly. Do you go through the bicycle section of stores and laugh at all the little bikes with training wheels as well?

I picked one up for my little guy last year. Painted the stock, and threw an EGW rail and a cheap 4x scope on it for him. He loves it, and i'm hoping that this year he bags his first grouse with it.

Would you tell me more about this? How’d it turn out? What paint and process did you use?

I’ve got a daughter named Violet. As you can imagine, everything in her world MUST be purple. Boyd’s used to make a laminate stock purple and black, but I can never seem to find one. I’d be interested to know how your paint job works out long term.

Just take off the butt plate and grip cap and lightly spray thin coats of any color paint that is compatible with plastic. I used tremclad camo paint. The OD green color on a pink stocked Rascal. Then after I was finished with the color coats I did some coats with a matte or satin clear coat to seal and protect the color coat. It looked like it was factory done when I added the black grip cap and butt plate.

And no chipping or wear with pink peeking through? I never seem to have much luck painting over plastic.

I have the blue one and a matching set of child peltors for my boys. It is a great learning rifle. I also used cci quiets in it for the perceived recoil and muzzle report. No use scaring them right away. We shoot it almost weekly in the summer and have a blast when we do!

I love those bullets. That’s what the kids use when we’re in the backyard. Closest neighbor said they can’t hear them unless they are outside.

go to your local scale model shop? get some Tamiya primer, whatever color your heart desires and then some clear coat (gloss or matte, your choice) prime, paint, clear coat voila happy daughter
