Just wanted to write a quick review for my daughters new savage rascal.
She is 5 1/2 and the wife and I decided it was time for her to be allowed to shoot. Especially since I needed a summer activity for my daughter and I.
SFRC had them in stock in pink so I ordered one.
And yes always deal
With them. Great customer service. Nice simple website and ordering process.

Got the Rascal in the mail about a week later and took it to the range.
Functions perfectly. I test fired it. Out of the box can hit a dime up to 20 yards with the iron peep sight.
My only critique about the rifle is that it has a spring loaded plastic feed ramp. I like the idea and I understand it's there to make it easy for kids to place a cartridge on it and close the action and feed the round into the chamber. For that it works perfectly. But when closing the bolt it provides a bit of resistance and forces the user to close the bolt with a bit extra force.
It became much smoother after even 30 rounds so it's almost a non issue.

The overall quality of the rifle seems excellent. The stock is the perfect fit and also great quality. The bolt knob is small and perfect for little hands. The safety is easy to use for my 5 1/2 year old daughter.
The accutrigger didn't need adjusting and seems the perfect pull weight for my daughter.
Shot Remington cb, cci quiet, Winchester bulk 333 packs, and cci shorts all shot accurate and fed and ejected perfect.

I have read some negative reviews regarding QC, but that was not an issue for me.

So anyone looking for a kids first gun... This is the perfect solution.
First time out and she functioned the rifle perfectly and maintained all the safety rules.
She even hit the target.

Great to see the young shooters getting off to a good start

My daughter and friends son were out shooting the rascals on the weekend. Hers in pink (of course) his in traditional wood

Great little rifles for the kids to learn on. My friends son refers to 22 long rifle as "rascal rounds"

^eyes/ears and a big, cute smile. What could be better! Our family "Rascal" is still popular, though my kids have outgrown it. I won't sell, but sometimes suggest I might just to see the look on my daughter's face. :) I have a hunch it will be passed-on to the next generation. Great starter gun for kids.

Sure hard to argue the big happy face of kid's shooting these wee Rascals.
Heck, all we got years ago were them old 39's.

Great photos.

I know I've posted this pic before, but I thought I'd add to the love of the rascal. I had some light strikes, but I fixed that.

I took the firing pin out and filed it until it was a thinner profile. I believe I ended up at about half the thickness.

I love the pic of your daughter OP - I bought a browning ladies pink shooting gear (muffs and glasses) for my daughter aged 6. She said she wouldn't go to the range with me unless I did. But being of the fairer ###, she is now uninterested in going but the muffs were great for the One Direction concert. No I did not go with her - she went with her mom and friends. I called them No Direction and was greeted with a round of "DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADYYYYYYYYYYYYYs". Anyways, the rascal is great but if you try the quick eject/load, I find the round may hang up - not that this is a big worry in fact, it forces young shooters to so down. Young shooters like my son!!

I am updating my "Savage Rascal problems" thread now...I just received the rifle back from Savage Canada (Lakefield), and the RMA slip said "replaced bolt assembly, range test fired 20 rounds, no failures. CCI" upon inspecting the bolt, it had a narrowed firing pin...

BIG KUDOS to Savage...customer service was professional, polite and quick...can't say the same for the retailer.

Saw that. If you get the chance (and you have the tool), could you measure the width of the new firing pin? Could come in handy for those like me that couldn't wait. I'm curious how close I am to the new specs.
