Savage recoil

I am looking at a savage 16Fhss an wanted to hear what people thought of the recoil. How about the American classic?

With a standard factory recoil pad you'll feel it a lot, a limbsaver will tame it a fair bit, as for muzzle jump it depends on how well you could soak it up. Not much different from many rifles.

Can you handle the recoil from a M700, M70 or M77 in .30-06? The stock shapes are similar and if rifle weights are similar enough, it should be close enough.

It's not so much the recoil from the 300wsm that concerned me, as I have had and handled well a 300 ultra XCR, I just don't know anyone who had 16 Savage and hadn't heard if anyone felt they were rather poor with soaking up recoil. I would put a limbsaver on of course if the factory pad wasn't cutting it, but it's always a concern when buying a new rifle, as you can't try it out and have no real way to tell until the moment of truth, but I thought some folks on here might have some thoughts. Haven't shot a Savage since my dads old model 99 so that is why I was asking.

+2 on the hockey puck. Get a limbsaver, and your worries will be over. The stock pad is hard. The shape of the stock isn't bad, but the light weight does promote muzzle jump.

This was my experience as well with a Weather Warrior in 300 WSM. Its pretty snappy to shoot. The stock didn't work well for me but I bet with a good recoil pad it would have been fine..
