I'm getting a new carry gun for coyotoes in .22-250. I had pretty much set my mind on getting a Savage 16FLHSS but then got looking around and found that the Tikka T3 Lite and the Remington SPS are both also avalaliable in left hand like the Savage is. Anyone have any coments on the choices? I have a couple Savage rimfires and like them quite a bit. I've owned Remington 700's in the past (mid 1980's early 1990's) and they were decent gun. I've never owned a Tikka though. Any comment would be apprecited. I'm thinking the Savage will be the shooter of the bunch with the least amount of modification.

Thanks
Tim

I own a Savage model 10 and a Remington 700 I would take the tikka just because nothing pulls me to one over the other they are all great guns but for me I would like to have a tikka as I do not own one yet......

If I had to pick between the rem and savage I wouldnt be able to decide they are both amazing guns sholder great shoot MOA or better.....

The best advice anyone can give is to handle all the guns and choose the one that fits you the best.....thats all you can really do.

this thread is going to get s**t up real quick when the "rem vs savage" guys get here and now we add tikka to the deal :runaway:.........

TRex, I have guns made in all 3 of what you mentioned, and teh short answer comes down to what you like , how does it fit , how does it carry, swing and point because they all are about the same accuracy wise, and should shoot sub Moa groups in a 22-250.

If anything if you like the look of the T-3 lite, they are a real nice gun to carry, and to be honest out of the 3 , the out of the box accuracy was great. Some guys do not like the feel of the comp stock or the plastic shroud Bolt head, but I carried on up and down the mountain out west for on 2 hunts and beat it up pretty good in minus dergee temps. I also shoot a T-3 year round in a 222, 308 Tactical, and super Varmint 7mm mag in hot and Cold weather, and have been doing so for a long time up to -30 degrees and I have not had a failure on a t-3 on any plastic parts.

Once you tune them up accuracy should about equal that being said it would really be hard to warrent picking one over the other for accuracy and you would really have to prove different, because all 3 shoot great once bedded, and adjusted.

They're all good choices, but for fit and finish the Savage and Remington can't touch the silky smooth bolt action of the Tikka. Out of the box accuracy is awesome on the Tikka, but I can vouch for the Savage as well in that regard as they have impressed me.
I have a T3 Varmint and I love that rifle. A buddy has the Savage Predator and it would keep up with my Tikka as far as accuracy goes, but it just didn't match the action smoothness and overall feel. The Tikka also has a 60 degree throw on the bolt as opposed to the Predator's 90 which was a huge deal for follow up shots. Food for thought.
Really though, any one you pick you'll win as far as I'm concerned.

Before you get too carried away... Consult your preferred retailers and find out EXACTLY what is available in the LH version, and in what calibers and models. You might be unpleasantly surprised to find out that whats in the catalog, is not there in person.

Tikka

Gotta love the Tikka!

- Super smooth bolt action
- Awesome adjustable trigger
- Sub MOA accuracy out of the box
- Light weight

I bought a .223 blued/synthetic used in August & I just traded my old Savage 110 deer rifle on a new .270 Win in SS/synthetic. After I had the first one, I started to get funny ideas about getting another...

I don't mind the synthetic stock & various plastic bits, but some guys don't like 'em. To me, everything is function over form - period. The injection moulded stock works fine, is light, & I don't have to worry about messing it up in the field.

The downside is you may have trouble finding one in the configuration you want. There isn't all that many around on the shelves. I phoned pretty much all the places across the country I could think of to find a .270 in SS/syn. Lo and behold, the only place I could find one was in my hometown. It was one of two I found... My buddy has had one (SS/laminated) in .308 on back order since July!

Whatever you decide, let us know about it and give us a review and some pics!

I just sold my savage 116 and bought a tikka T3 lite, the tikka is head and shoulders above the Savage as far as fit and finish go. It is lighter, has a stiffer stock, smoothest bolt I have ever worked.....period!!!, the trigger is super crisp, and its far more rugged than the anti-plastic guys would have you believe. As far as that bolt shroud, yes it is plastic, but you'd have to drop your gun awkwardly to knock it off (especially if its scoped) and even if it did come off, it's only there for looks, and stoeger will send you a new one free of charge if it ever did come off.
Both are equally accurate (they both shoot better than I can , so I am not giving the nod to either in that department)
I never really did like Remmy's, and the only ones I have like in the past were made in the 70's. With the stories I am hearing about Remmy's QC these days, I am loathe to even consider one. PLUS , they unleashed the 710/770 on the shooting world, so that deserves my boycott for a few more years ;)
I wouldn't pick a rifle without shouldering it anyhow, cause all the features in the world wont help you if it feels awkward or doesn't fit you when you pull the trigger

I love my .243 Savage 11. I replaced the plastic Tupperware stock with a nice wooden one and bedded it.

Three bullets, two deer to the butcher- yearling mulie buck and a big whitetail doe.

I must say the clip on my savage 116 was alternately stacked, but had a single slot on top for it to center feed. IT never had problems feeding, but the clip was so tight when I put the max amount in it, that if it wasn't fed properly into the gun, it would fall out on recoil. What I mean is, I had to load the back of the clip up into the gun first, then firmly push the front of the clip up until I heard it click. If I shoved it up flatly, It rarely caught, and would pop out when the gun fired. The T3 has such a solid catch system, that I have finally stopped thinking about it. I friggin LOVE MY T3 lite.

I've shot all three. The Tikka is definitely the best. Very smooth, fast bolt. The Savage is a close second. As far as accuracy goes, the Tikka and Savage are the same. Tikka had a bit less recoil, though, and better action. The Savage, however, fit right in my arms. Personally, if I had to pick between a mildly inferior gun that fit right vs. one that didn't, I'd go for the former. But that's personal preference. You may find the Tikka fits better. The Remington I shot was stiff. Buddy and I were out shooting, and he mentioned the bolt being stiff. This was a new gun, however, and may still need to be 'worked' in. Also, all the above I shot in right hand format. I doubt left handed would be much different, except for the location of the bolt handle.

Well I found a T3 to handle I really didn't like it at all. I've had a couple Sakos so I thought I'd maybe get a T3 but liek I said it really didnt like it all.....it just felt cheap. I looked it over and it seemed really nice but I just couldnt get past the feel of it. I ended up going with th Savage SS, hinged floor plate mag and the plastic stock. I'm going to be replaceing it whte first chance I get with a laminated one. I should have the gun by tomorrow or Thrusday. I've got everything ready to go ot and as I look out the window there's a couple inches of fresh tracking snow on the ground so I'll be good to go.........coyotes bring it on !!!!!!

Thanks for your replies
