which is better the savage combo for 550.00 or the rem 710 combo for 450.00
or are the both crap?

Most on this forum loathe the Remington 710, they're a lot like mimes.
The rifle itself will work, but that's all.
The Savage combo, in my opinion is the better of the 2. Savage have been noted for out of the box accuracy.
There is always another option in the Remington SPS series.

You can buy a decent used gun on the forum here for abit more. Ive seen Tikka T3's for $550
