Hey guys,

Anyone have experience with the Savage Mark II in the BRJ or BTVS models? Really thinking about a new .22 and these are the two I've got my eye on. Local gunstore has a BSEV that is absolutely beautiful and shoulders super nice but it has no sling stud and I wouldn't be willing to drill one in so that's a deal breaker.

BTVS - excellent rifle for the price. Stock excellent, trigger very good, looks great and very accurate. With some makes of ammo mine shoots 5 shot groups less than 0.5" at 50m from the bench.
 
The btvs, I had one... Hated it! The comb in the stock was way too high for me. I used low rings to mount my scope (cause I like it as close to the barrel as possible) in order to get a good view through it I woulda had to mount my scope an inch off the barrel.... Big minus for me, as well... The thumb hole stock was not comfortable for me. Just my own thoughts on MY experience, it did shoot good though.

On my BTVS, I mounted a fairly large scope in Burris High Signature Zee Rings and have had perfect eye/scope alignment in all shooting positions including prone with a bipod and shooting from the bench. For me it is a super smallbore rifle, and...it's made in Canada!
I guess that's why the Savage .22's are so good.
 
Yeah, dont get me wrong i do love savages and will likely buy more in the future, just the stock more or less i disliked about that rifle.

Something else to look at may be a BV model or BRJ. I liked the stock from my BV model and the short barrel from my FVSR so i did this... :)

Thanks for all the info! Picked up a btvs she is a beauty. Ill just have to clip the trigger spring and polish sears to get er down to about a pound!
 
What's the bic pen trick? I have always cut off 2.5 coils right away and it has worked out. If I take too much I can always turn the spring back in a touch :)

Yeah no kidding. I have a model 25 that I have tinkered with as well and that trigger is about 1.5 pounds. Anything over 2 and I can tell, definitely spoiled.

I'll have to look into the bic spring thing.

In post #3 above I mentioned shooting less than 0.5", 5 shot groups at 50m from the bench. That, ladies and gentlemen, is with the original trigger, unmodified, adjusted to as light as it will go, 3 lbs. You young shooters get all 'worked up' about trigger weight - it is not that important, learning and practicing good trigger control is the thing that's important. Getting the trigger weight down too low on some bolt actions will cause them to fire as the bolt is closed - a very dangerous situation.

My advice is leave it alone and practice good trigger control. I would NEVER put a cheap, ball point pen spring in a firearm.

I was thinking this also but wouldn't the accutrigger stop any bumpfires, it's sorta a safety in a way.
