Im not asking about the axis but rather the other savage full bore models. I will admit I used to hate the savage but can't understand why I have this new found interest in them. I think it must be the utilitarian style to them. And the fact that I own a rimfire in 22 and the thing shoots as good as anschutz and CZ rifles i used to have. the full bore rifles seem very accurate. Can anyone speak of the quality of the barrels, bores and action. The Acutrigger is just cool.

Ding,Ding,Ding.......

Round one!

For the money, they perform very well. Some are a little rough around the edges, but I have yet to have one fail in the accuracy department.

Owned a few, a 338 that the magazine would drop out on about every second shot, a brand new 7 08 that had a shell jam on its second or third shot and the extractor came apart gouging the action, waited months they never properly fixed the rifle, they offered sanding and a cold blue on a new rifle and I was told verbally by the warranty repair guys that it was a head space problem when the rifle was returned the official story was it was the ammo (factory federal) purchased with the rifle and returned the remaining to them for analysis. Didn't trust the 338 for my Bison draw so I purchased a Ruger in 338 and lent the Savage to my partner, the action didn't like cold weather I guess and was difficult to work in sub zero weather the Ruger worked fine. These were both accutrigger models and yes they were more accurate than the Ruger. Lots of people like them and you will get lots of positive reports just not from me. To many rifles in the same price range that I would prefer. On the plus side parts service is second to none and ease of caliber conversion is attractive.

I was never a savage fan my whole life but then the deal came up on the 10TR. Just had to try one for the price. Can't say I'm disappointed. It sure isn't a Sako but shoots as good and probably better. Not the smoothest action I own but works just fine. I've heard lots complain about the stock not being rigid enough...ya...kind of plasticy....but it's plastic and the rifle is heavy enough without adding more to the stock. I guess I'm just not a princess when it comes to equipment. I like the accutrigger...adjustable, crisp...takes a bit of getting use to if you never used one before but again, works just fine.
The thing that turned my opinion of them was when I started load testing for it. Loaded half a dozen loads, 4 of each and they all grouped 1 moa or less at 300yds. Almost boring, but I think I'll keep it.

I have found myself rather enjoying the 11/111 series lately... Using a better scope then what they come with.

Some small quirks here or there but having started with milsurps they are minor quirks to me, lol. ;)

I hated savage for a while. Just on how it felt. Cheep cheep.
I bought the wife a axis youth in 243.
It's plastic and the trigger sucks. I still think the bbl nut is horid looking and the bolt makes me gag

All this and I would buy another in a heartbeat.
Stupid accurate and feeds and ejects perfect.
Dose exactly what it should.

Got a 22 for my Bro and it shot better then a ruger 77/22
So I went for it and got the 10 tr the price was right .thanks
To the fellow who sold it to me(cgn member) ...anyways the rifle is great for the money, if you want something that's got a smooth bolt and nice stock perfect all around....spend a few grand and you will get it
if you want a cheap rifle that shoot as good as the pricy ones than savage rifles are for you
For now it shoots better then I do but I still practicing and developing loads I am confident I will shoot and hit 1k targets
One day

Own/owned about a dozen, never owned a bad one. They are fun and functional

I have owned much more expensive guns but none more accurate, I own a stupid accurate 223 axis

It's not a clip, it's a magazine ....

Some still like clip regardless of it being incorrect. Someone should officially change it. Makes more sense than magazine:)

I have had a couple Savage Centrefires. One had ftf / fte problems from day one. It left quickly. The other two were supremely accurate, but I just couldn't warm up to them. They left too, and some guys are likely making guys with their f-class rigs at the range envious because of the accuracy.

I have a 7 year old model 12 in .308 Benchrest, a poor man's long range rig.
I't on it's 4th barrel, but the same loose, bulky action, still shoots like a dream after approx. 10,000 rounds.
Not bad for an inexpensive starter's rifle.

Recently purchased 2. Not at the same time. My wife liked one in .17 hmr, bull barrel accutrigger nice wood stock. I put a simple Cabelas caliber specific scope on it and holy crap that thing shoots! I was so impressed that a few months later I bought a axis .223 for a gopher gun. I paid more for the scope than the rifle. Goddamn badger took my gophers this spring but it shoots very well on paper, I find if the barrel warms up a bit with quick shots I end up with wider groups. Good enough for slower shots such as hunting in my opinion. Got to say I like them both.

Mags are for guns clips are for pot......

I have never owned a bad, problematic, or poor shooting Savage or Stevens since I bought my first in the late 70s.
I have a stock out of the box FLCPK that is astonishingly accurate out to just over 400 yds., which is the longest distance I've tried.

The centerfires I had shot fine they just didn't eject anything. The rimfire guns all bets were off. I don't own any savages anymore because for a little bit more can get a gun I actually like.

It depends what you want use your Savage rifle for. As a target rifle, varmint rifle, or as a big game hunting rifle that is used for day trips, they run from okay to very good. But for extended wilderness trips, for dangerous game hunting, or for protection work, they aren't even on my radar. The bolt design is over thought, and the firing pin passing through the floating pin which holds on the bolt head is IMHO a failure waiting to happen. The Accutrigger has no place in the big game arena, but while a trigger can be swapped out, the bolt is pretty much what you have. Although the concept of a replaceable bolt head has some attraction, particularly if you wanted to build a switch barrel rifle, there are better ways to accomplish it. The Savage 99 was an excellent big game rifle, the bolt guns, not so much

Every time I read Boomer's comment about savage bolt rifle, I think of selling mine. And eventually I will, as I believe his knowledge.
It is really sad for me as my fcxp 111 in 243 is so accurate that even I point to a wrong spot, the bullet will always hit the spot I intended to. It is like a missile,I once thought.

My first center fire was a stainless Savage Model 12 in .223. Bone stock with a middle of the line Bushnell it was scary accurate out 300. Wish I'd never sold it. The co-worker I sold it to won't even consider selling it back he likes it so much.
