Savage rifles test fired?

Picked up a Savage 10FP from P&D today. Does savage test fire their rifles? It looks like it has been fired before.
 
It's possible they do a random-selection test firing as part of their QA process. My Stevens 200 hadn't been fired (that I could tell), and my 12BVSS I bought used, so I can't help ya there
 
There was brass on the bolt face. Minor wear on the blueing (bolt). The bolt itself was sealed in a plastic bag.
 
All companies "Test Fire" . Some, as mentioned have more than a round put thru them to check quality assurance. This is a normal industry practice. Have you fired you rifle yet? how does it shoot?
I have found accuracy with the Savage line nothing less than fantastic!

Haven't fired it yet. Still need optics and rings. Unfortunately that will have to wait a few more pay checks, the wife wants patio furniture :rolleyes:
 
As mentioned above we have found occasional new guns showing signs of being test fired. It varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. It seems funny that most companies make no effort to clean the guns after the test and in some case (Remington Police 700) look downright dirty and used. We have sent back some rifles that appeared to be demo rifles. Most legitimate distributors will identify demo rifles and will reduce the price accordingly that we in turn identify to the customer and also pass on the savings.
 
X2. Having work many gunshows over the years, it's amazing what you find when you open up a "new" rifle box. Especially when they come in straight from a wholesaler or similar supplier. Worst one I've seen was a pair of black powder rifles, "brand new" in box. Supplier shall remain nameless, but one looked like it just came back from a busy hunt! Bore was so thick with black powder fouling, it was a task to even see light through it. The second one was clean as a whistle. Go figure???
 
I would be more perturbed with a manufacturer that failed to test fire than one who did not. There are things that can happen that will not be seen unless a rifle is actually test fired. [a small flaw in the chamber, for example.] That being said, if these are test fired, a quick cleanup is probably not too much to ask. Regards, Eagleye.
 
My new Savage 111 in 300WM was dirty when I took it out of the box, so I'm assuming it was testfired. First thing I did was clean it. My father bought the same rifle in 30-06, it also needed a cleaning out of the box
 
I fully examined the rifle from end to end and it appears that it was test fired and nothing more. I'm not worried, at least I know it works. Looking forward to firing.
 
Savage proof fires every centerfire rifle they sell. Many have a purple ring on the boltface, which comes from a flatened primer of a proof load. Don't know about the rimfires or shotguns but they likely are test fired as well.
 
My Savage BV 22lr was test fired. I could tell when i cleaned it the day i got it.
I must have used at least 8 swabs to get that bore nice and shiney.
