Savage scope fitting problem

I just bought a Falcon 4-14FFP for my savage 110 and when i brought it into the gun shop to get fitted the guy said it wouldnt fit the base and rings i already had on it with the original scope ( which i already knew) but he told me i needed some sorta extended rings for the scope to fit with proper eye relief. at the moment i have the factory 2 peice base but i asked the guy if he could just throw on a 1 peice picatinny base with regular rings. and he said no it wouldnt work

what do you guys think ??
am i missing something ??

I'm fairly new to all of this as of June, but whoever you talked to sounds like a complete idiot.

My Savage 10FP came with 2-piece base/rings set, probably the same as yours. My Falcon scope wouldn't work so I removed the rings/base and put on a 1-piece EGW 20MOA base with Burris XTR Medium rings(you might be able to get away with LOW rings).


The the scope will fit fine with the proper rings/rail. The eye relief isn't the best on the Falcon Scopes, but it's still fine.

BTW: do you have these 'type' of rings/base?

The only way you can have a problem is that the scope body is too short for the action length. The rings have to be spaced too far apart and the scope bell and/or mag adj ring gets in the way.

A one piece scope base with extra slots will eliminate this problem. If you look at the spacing on the Farrell base, you have several options which are very close together.

There should be no problem fitting a scope here. You can put that scope right on top of your eyeball if you wanted.

Now if the bell is hitting something, then just use taller rings and/or Farrell base which is taller when the standard Weaver base.

I am not a big fan of the windage bases cause they can loosen. Not so good for accuracy.

I had that problem when I tried to mount a Leupold Rifleman on a Stevens 200 30-06 for board member LPR. If I'd had more time and access to bits I would have tried a few other ring/base combinations. Unfortunately geography and time frame precluded that. FWIW I had no problem mounting my Burris Signature 3-9 on my Stevens 200 '06. Worth consulting the tech specs on a scope before you buy to see if it will go on the rifle without issues.

As an aside, the guy that told you the Picatinny rail wouldn't work should have his sack slit and his foot put through it. It's a perfect soltution for your problem if you don't mind a one piece base.
