Savage slug gun

word of advise though, don't trust the factory ballistic tables. real world velocity is often much slower then the long barrel the manufacturer used to test. my groups fall apart after 150 yards. at 150 I will kill my deer every time. at 200yards they don't even stay on a sheet of paper. they must go subsonic somewhere shortly after 150 not after 200 like Remington would have you believe. do your own testing to see how far your gun will hold a tight group.

The 20 is quite flat shooting in comparison to a 12ga. But I feel 150 yards is max long distance for most scenarios using a rifled barreled slug gun. Having said that, I'm aware of someone who took two Whitetails with a Savage 220 during the 2015 Controlled hunt in ON - the first one he shot at 168 yards and the second deer bolted and stopped where he dropped that at 212 yards.

Savage 220 manual specifically recommends the use of 3in Accutips EDIT: this part is actually incorrect > as well as Federal Trophy Copper sabots <. I've zeroed my friend's 220 and the shots were touching at 100 yards with the Accutips. So far, I've only had a single opportunity last year to shoot my own gun with just a bore sighted scope (100 yard target below). Since then, I haven't been able to go back and properly zero the slug gun. The vertical impact holes at the very left edge of the paper are Hornady SST.

BTW, OP - in order to properly eject the spent hull, you'd need to withdraw the 220 bolt with some authority, simply babying the bolt doesn't produce the desired effect.

Thanks for all the good info Ahsam, I guess I'm going shopping for Remington 3in Accutips. John
