Hi, I recently purchased a Savage Sporter aka model 23C chambered in 32.20
It has a five round detachable mag. I enjoy old rifles because of there history and well......they just fit better for some reason.

Does anyone have any knowledge of these? The serial number is 76496, anyone know the year of manufacture?

Thanks, Arch:)

I've got a 23B in .25-20. Got it for free and it's probably one of my favorite guns. If you need a mag you can go to http://###.dktcoltd.com/gun_maga.html. I never ordered from there, but my mag was rough and I was looking for options if my gunsmith couldn't get it feeding reliably. If you want more information you could try contacting this guy. Found his info on another forum when I was trying to figure out my Sporter.

Your hotlink doesn't work.

Lettering a 23C will cost you $25 U.S. from J.C. just to find out what day it was accepted at the factory and where it went when it left, a hard to find 99 I could see but a 23C seems like a waste of money.

Arch, I think Gunrunner100 has a spare mag if your looking for one.

Hi, after a little more research I've come to the conclusion you are correct. It would be a waste of money. These older Savages 23 models are inexpensive rifles. A cheaper brand new .22 rimfire goes for more money. Their worth is about $150.00 to 250.00 dollars.

Can it be dated approx. by the Savage rollmarks?
I know the Savage 99 books have lots of info on Savage rollmarks.
Are they applicable to the other Savage models as well?

Unfortunately not.

The barrel addresses are different on some of the other models, they used some on the 99's (per Murrays) and others on different firearms even though they were the same year of manufacture.

Arch, if you gimme the barrel address I'll try and see if there's a match but it's gonna be vague.

Hi the only numbers on the Savage are the serial numbers, no other markingd besides the calibre and patent info.

Thanks, Arch:)
