I have a Savage Stevens 200 in 22-250 and the extractor fails to extract the cases about 50% of the time (releases the casing halfway through the chamber on extraction), was wondering if there is an aftermarket extractor i can get installed on this rifle?

Thanks

Unaware of one, but what you are reporting isn't common. Is the extractor moving freely back and forth, and does it snap back into place? May just be some grease or trash causing the extractor to stick.

It may not be the extractor--make sure that the magazine box is not sitting too high inside the action--my .223 did the same thing until I tweaked it a bit.

Hey Tiriaq, the extractor does move freely and snaps back into place as it should, it isnt worn or anything. No dust or debris anywhere.

Hi 44Bore can you please ellaborate on the tweaks you mentioned? I do notice the magazine does "pop" cartridges out causing feeding issues unless i push in the bolt really slowly. starting to think the magazine follower spring has too much "tension"

My Savage Model 111FCXP3 in 270 winchester does not have this issue at all but this model has the detachable magazine so do not know if the setup is the exact same.

common problem on Savages...three that I owned had the problem....sold them all. The left hand 308 was the only one that worked properly....and it had the older clip style extractor.

As I recall, I had to trim the top of the mag box slightly (filed) and then bent them in slightly --seemed to help the problem. I have had several Savage 110's with wood stocks and never had this issue so I am wondering if it is something connected to the synthetic stock??

but the shell left on the top of the mag in not a mag issue....this is the extractor issue...
the back of round doesn`t go deep enough in the bolt, so after the shot, it`s not pulled by extractor - it`s just pushed out by ejector....
this kind of picture I found out last night playing with my gun :(
any advice????
thanks

Savage 1-413-568-7001 Service Dept opens at 9 EST.

Call them and they will ship you a new extractor, free of charge.

Never had trouble myself but it is fairly common lately with the Beryllium extractors [brass colored] but not with the new steel extractors.

hello gents....

the problem is solved: just take the extractor off the bolt( be carefull, there are the ball and the spring), and file all sharp edges off....use fine small file....
works fine...
have it done last week, shot about 100 rounds - no problems at all...
before that - every 4-5th shell was removes by hand.... now - no problem at all.....same ammo, same gun - no problem reported afterall :))))
best regards and safe shots :)

P.S.: just a day before that ordered new exrtactor kit ( extractor, spring, ball) from Savage....free of charge...
oh well, will have spare :)

Got mine in the mail today, FREE of charge. Easy as hell to fix so now I have a spare spring, ball and extractor for this one. :) Savage didn't say take it to a approved gunsmith, they said sorry, here's a new extractor kit for you, and we'll ship it today, totally free of charge.

Unlike Bushnell  where a living person doesn't exist, you need to pay shipping both ways and wait a couple of months.

what color of the extractor did you get form the Savage: white or yellow one???

about proved gunsmith: they tried to send me to the gunsmith in Edmonton, but when I told them that I KNOW THAT I CAN GET AN EXTRACTOR KIT, they sent it right away :)))) now I`m waiting for the parts :)

Steel, not the Berylium alloy. Not sure why they switched to the steel but the quality control on the steel extractor is better, both parts were in-house made AFAIK.

Way I solve this problem is make sure the bolt is closed good and reef on it when I unlock the bolt...I never had this problem and I've used Brass and Steel case .223.
