Savage Stevens 200 in .223 Rem?

I know they are long out of production but they made a trillion of them.

I used to see them all over the EE.
Owned one 13 years ago and it was a sturdy little lightweight tack driver.

I've got a WTB add up on the EE.
Anyone have any leads on one for sale?! I don't care if shes scarred and/or beaten as long as the bore and crown are strong.

I can't be the last one around that fondly remembers and loved these little discount sleepers lol
 
I saw one within the last few weeks on the EE, so they're still being sold by people here and there. It was a fair price too, $550 in a Boyds stock or something like that.

All I can suggest is you keep looking. One will turn up eventually, might be a while though, as you have mentioned they certainly aren't as common as they used to be.

I have seen them all over when I wasn't looking and now....go figure lol Ain't that always the way!

I wish I never sold my old one. That thing was scary accurate.
 
I remember when I bought mine, and laughed at the barrel size. At the time, I had a Mauser with a truck axle size barrel. I was laughing at how it wouldn't be accurate. The gun surprised me for accuracy, under 1" with WWB 45grn JHP. And the price back then was under 240$. I think they were better value than Savage Axis, or Rem 783 for the value hunting rifle.
 
I have had 2 of Stevens 200 model rifles . first was a 270 win that i put a boyds stock on . it was a good shooting rifle out of the box with blue box federal ammo . and even more so with the boyds stock and hand loads . the second I still have in 223 rem this little rifle as ugly as it is . in its grey plastic stock is an absolute tack driver with any 40 to 60 gr bullet I have tried . for under 300 to the door I don't think there is a better econo rifle on the market . this probably why people are hanging on to them .

Still have mine . Handload for it BUT it shoots those WWB 45 hp so well.....

Bought a 243 at the same time , because the guy knocked a few bucks off for 2. It shot just as well. Had less than $500 into the two of them, to my door.

I almost responded to your add. I should get rid of it cause I don’t use it enough, but it shoots everything sooooooo well, I just couldn’t bring myself to part with it. I use my American predator more because of the detachable magazine, but the Stevens is more accurate. Keeping my eye out for a savage stock with detachable mag for it.... I had a 7mm-08 also, not as good, but still good.

I really really wish I hadn't ever sold it :(

I had a savage axis, yes it shot but it was crazy long and cheap is not the word for how low quality that rifle was even for a budget rifle. Receiver and bolt steel was made of pop can aluminum lol
 
They are still out there, but they tend to end up with people who keep them. E.g. you sold one and regret it so your are looking for another, if you find it you probably won't sell it, it will be off the market at least until your executor has to dispose of it.

So all you more experienced in the hunting rifle types; can anyone recommend me a similar style sleeper budget .223 from back in the day to keep my eyes out for that can be had for cheap and are plentiful?
And no on the savage axis lol Been there. Won't go back.
 
Here's a pair or Stevens 200 that I pimped out . They're both keepers. The top one is .223 and the other is a .243. Both have Rifle Basics triggers in them and Boyds stocks.

I bought a Stevens in 30-06 as a beater when I moved up North. Damned thing shot like a house on fire. It served me well while I was up there and I sold it when I moved South because I had others that filled the niche well. But the damned thing was awfully impressive for a $300 dollar rifle. One of the best shooters I've ever had. I'd love to get my hands on a 223 or 22-250 since I've got dies for both.
