I am about to purchase an after market trigger for my new Savage package gun. Which triggers do you guys like? I know that Timney, Sharp Shooter Supply, Rifle Basics are available.

I currently have a Timney on a Stevens 200 and I like that trigger, but I'm only 43 so I don't know much yet. I don't want to miss out if I don't have to.

Guys, tell me about your triggers, what you like and what you don't like.

cheers,
warren

Rob,
if no one gives me a reason not to, then I will be buying another trigger from the great Jerry Theo. :)

EDIT: this is the internet and so thought I better clarify. Jerry only had Timneys last time I checked. I certainly like to buy form Jerry.

Simple question becomes complicated. sorry.

i like my Sav-2 trigger from Rifle Basix, it goes down to 3 oz. I think and I have it set right there, very nice, almost like my Jewel trigger.

Thanks guys, I went ahead and ordered a SSS trigger before I got your replies. I doubt it will be as good as the sav-2 trigger but it will be interesting just to compare it to the Timney.

cheers!

I'm also looking at these trigger options for my Stevens 200 in 7mm-08. Have you installed the SSS trigger yet? What are your opinions on it compared to your Timney? My use will be mainly for hunting and also at the range, do you find one better than the other for a hunting application?

Cano,

I think I like the SSS trigger better than the timney. The timney is more straight forward to fit. It just drops in. The SSS needed some metal taken off the inside of the trigger guard. I also had to open the hole in the savage trigger housing a few thou. No big deal but not a straight drop in.

I have not had as much time shooting the SSS as the Timney but like I said I think I prefer it. There apears to be a little more engineering has gone into the SSS also in my opp.

They are both night and day compared to the standard triggers.

EDIT: oh and as for hunting I don't think you will find either trigger adjusts so light as to be a concern for hunting. But the adjustment goes both ways if you are concerned.

Sorry I don't have a means of measuring the pull weight as a comparison.

Thanks warrenb some really good info there. It sounds as though it's fair to say that with the instructions the sss trigger comes with it's fairly straight forward then? Anyone install one on a stevens? Straight drop in or some work as on warrenbs savage?

Awaiting your opinion as well kayake and anyone else who has installed any of these triggers.

My savage is the package gun. Its all but identical to my stevens with a DMag. I would not worry about having to dremel some materail off the trigger gard. Its on the inside where the gaurd goes against the stock. Can't be seen unless you remove the gaurd.
