I'm looking to put a "real" stock on my mark II FVT and have a couple questions... When ordering a boyds stock how can you tell if it's for a "V" series heavy barrel? I'd rather not order one to discover the barrel won't fit in the channel. Also, when replacing the hardware, is it really cheaper to go through savage? And will I need all new screws in addition to the trigger guard and floorplate?
Lastly, has anyone ever just ordered a replacement stock from savage? I'm curious to know how much it would cost just to buy a BV stock from savage with hardware and one shipping fee?

When I ordered mine from Boyd i didn't notice if they even did ones for light or heavy barrels, i am pretty sure they are the same stock, my heavy barrel savage fit in the normal stock from boyd, worst case you would have to take some wood off for a proper fit, but i didn't have to.
I don't know if it is cheaper through savage but that is where i ordered from and i am pretty sure i only needed one new screw for the trigger guard, savage sent it with it.

I am not sure but i was told that a lot of the wooden stocks for savage are made by boyd? but i have no proof for that so i don't really know

Not related to this question, but a buddy of mine just got notification that his stock shipped from Boyds...but he ordered it weeks ago. Apparently, it was listed as an "in stock" item, so he's puzzled as to what the delay was.

Might be a good idea to check when you order, see how soon the stock will ship.

I fitted a Mk.II into a Boyds stock with a 0.920" heavy barrel and didn't need to sand too much out of the barrel channel to make it work. I would think the standard Savage heavy barrel would fit just fine.

I just checked the boyd prices for the trigger guard and the other stuff you would need and it is cheaper than savage.

The trigger guard and bottom plate are cheaper, but don't look like they include the longer action screws you need to go from a plastic stock to the wood stock. I paid about $37 shipped from Savage for everything when I did my changeover, depending on the screws Boyds might be cheaper or Savage might. It isn't a huge difference either way.

just remember that ordering from Boyds puts you on a $100 or less transaction. Ordering a stock and the bottom kit will put you over that mark. You would have to make a separate order for whichever item and get pinched for double shipping.

Is that $100 after tax and shipping? The stock is $59 and bottom hardware is $22... It should be fine if it's before shipping, even after tax it would be under $100.

What is this "100 dollars or less transaction". Also, I can't seem to find on savages site where to order the trigger guards from, a lot of magazines but no trigger guard. does someone have a link for it.

If you order from Boyds, your total order cannot exceed $100.00. I imagine it has something to do with ITAR restrictions, I think that is what it's called. I depends on what stock you order. The one I want (tacticool) is 91.00, so with a bottom kit it would come over $100 and I get screwed on shipping. If the stock and bottom kit come in below $100 ... than you good to go. Remember it is total merchandise cost, not cost with shipping.
