My Savage TAC-21 chassis showed up on Tuesday. I ordered it through Mystic Precision and Jerry as always was great to deal with. It really transformed my Savage Hog Hunter :)
The install wasn't too bad even though no installation instructions came with the chassis. The hardest part was reinstalling the accu-trigger, I could have used a third hand. The only modification I need to make is to shorten the recoil lug on the rifle, it is too long and interferes with installing the forend. I don't know if this is an issue with the chassis or if there is large variations in Savage recoil lug dimensions, but the lug needs to be shortened a millimeter or two.
Had the rifle on the range today and it was a pleasure to shoot :)

A few cellphone pics after the install was finished.

That looks pretty cool! I have really become a fan of these chassis, could be one for me in the near future! let us know how it shoots.... do you by chance have a "before" range report, and then results for an after to see if there is an accuracy difference... would just like to see a comparison for fun sake.

No before range report, I only fired a few rounds through it in the old stock to check function. Never mounted a scope on it. Before I start working up a load for it I need to first shorten the recoil lug as I'm sure it is putting a strain on the action as is.

Today it was shooting Winchester 62gr FMJ between .5" to .7" 5 shot groups at 100 meters. But when I switched to Remington 60gr Match the groups opened up to about 1.25". Go figure.

This is what I am curious about. This chassis looks amazing, but with the scope mounted on it instead of the receiver....I assume the receiver is very well fastened to the chassis, very curious to see how though. Since yours is already put together, anyone have a bunch of pics of the chassis before installation??

Awesome, thanks! Got a little confused when he was tightening the action screws...I think he said push the receiver into the action housing up to the lug, but don't the screws to the receiver and the holes in the housing dictate the position? Seems like this is part of what you said in the original post, that the recoil lug did not fit. In the video it seems like there was a gap, which might be easier to fix with some bedding, but in your case that seems odd that you would need to remove some of your lug...that doesn't seem right to me.

Anyway, I think this is a really neat concept, I would love to check one of these out but the pocket book won't allow it this year. Anyone near Kamloops have one they want to show off? :p

*Edit* Just re-read your post and realized that you had to shorten the length not the thickness. Still, curious to know about the fit between the recoil lug and the action housing.

On mine the back of the recoil lug butts up against the action housing but the bottom sticks out past the outer edge of it about a millimeter or two when the action screws or torqued up tight. This interferes with sliding on the forend. I had to loosen the action screws, install the forend and then tighten the screws. But this is placing stress on the action so I will shorten the recoil lug for it to fit properly.
