It took way too long to get around to doing it....

It took me way too long to do it, but that is because I am a machining newbie...

But I am happy with my indestructible non-plastic trigger guard on my little 17HMR. Yet to field test it but I am sure it will be fine.

Funny, I'm looking for one of those right now. I didn't notice the plastic 'till I got it home, it bothers me now.

How did you make it?

I started out with a piece of stainless bar stock and I have a benchtop milling machine and I roughly cut it out that way. I finished it up with a die grinder and sanding rolls, the ones you port racing cylinder heads with.

That sounds like a nice project. I wish I had a mill, I'd do it that way. I was thinking of waterjet cutting one. All of the challenge would be in drawing it, the waterjet does all of the hard work. However, the stream diverges slightly as it passes through the workpiece, so it would be thicker on one side than the other. That comes into consideration as it has such a thin profile. I'd have to fix it by hand.

I'd like to find out if the older lakefield trigger guards are steel and of the same fit, anyone know about this? That would be the easy way out I guess.
