I am going to be getting into varminting ( mainly chucks, crows, coyote, general pests ) and range work and I am looking at a few rifles in particular Savage 12FV, 10FP compared to Rem 700 VLS or if there is a noticable difference in in quality a Savage 12 VLP / BVSS compared to Rem XR-100 and 700VSSF 11.

I have heard good things about the savages and am wondering what would be the best buy in regards to quality accuracy and overall dependibilty. Are the are the VLS and 12FV 10 FP as good as the vlp and xr and VSSF 11 as they are cheaper and can invest in better glass or is the step to them worht the price difference.

I am in ontario and the weight difernce is not much as we do not walk around allot its mostly spot and stalk or calling.

I am looking for the best performance overall

thanks

I'd hang a Leupold VXII 6-8x40 AO with LRV reticle on a Remington 700 VSF and be happy - probably in .223

For a "walking" gun, probably a 700 LV SF with
maybe a VXII 4-12x40 AO.

I have a Savage M-12 VLP in 22-250 and am impressed with ALMOST everything about mine.It is very accurate, looks good (to me),and the fit and finish are good aswell. It outshoots a friend of mine's Rem VLS in 243 almost always,(may have something to do with the shooters and particular loads we happen to be using on any given day).We both handload and shoot together often and I quite like his VLS aswell.BTW his is fixed with a Leupold VX II 6-18x40AO with fine duplex, and mine is fixed with a Leupold Vari-X II 6-18x40AO with target dot reticle to let you know they are fairly equally matched in the optics department.
I will say that mine (VLP) lately is being a prick about ejecting empty cartridges. It extracts them fine but about 50% of the time it will leave the empty case lying on the mag follower instead of tossing it out on the ground. This sucks if you are in need of a follow up on a second coyote.
I should look into getting the problem rectified, but lately I've been using my model 70 in .264 WinMag with controlled round feed/extraction.
Get what ever excites you more as both will/should shoot well enough to take any of the varmints mentioned.
Here is a pic of a 3 shot group (after 1 fouling shot) that I fired at 200 yds using the bipod off the hood of my truck.I did have a rear bag.
