Savage vs Stevens question

Someone will correct me if I am wrong.
Savage and Stevens are basically the same. However, the Stevens is your basic rifle. The Savage is the one where you can get a wide variety of configurations. Stocks, barrels, sights, and the biggest is Savage has the Accutrigger. So there is no Savage 310 look at the differant 93R17 and choose your configuration.

Savage and Stevens is like Honda and Acura ... They both work quite well, but Acura (savage) is of a higher quality.
"...as good as...?" Well, depends what you want out of the rifle. The Accutrigger is a great feature, IMO, and I'd probably pass on the Stevens for that reason. However, if an adjustable trigger is not that important to you, then I wouldn't hesitate to go with the Stevens. Accuracy on these rifles seems to be highly dependent on the particular barrel, and you'll have no way of knowing that until you shoot it. As for fit and finish, I'd agree that the finish on the Savages is generally better, but that's not always the case (I've seen some pretty roughly finished Savages). If you're not in a rush, the 93 will turn up. If you want to start shooting now, I'd say try the Stevens.

Not that you can believe everything you read on the internet, but I read recently that the Steven's line is made in either Turkey or China, while the Savage rimfires are made in Canada or USA.

i have a stevens bench rest rig that i love it doesnt have the bells and whistles but its easy to work on relible and very accurate so its up to you if your handy you can make it a real shooter with not to much effort
I've had both a Savage 93R17 TR and a Stevens 310, both barrels are stamped made in Lakefield Ont.
I recently bought the Savage to replace the Stevens for the accutrigger and heavy barrel, made a deal with a buddy to buy the Stevens from me. I liked the Stevens once I'd messed with the trigger a bit to lighten it but the accutrigger is still crisper. I really like shooting the Savage with a bipod but find I want to remove it when shooting from a standing off hand position because it makes the rifle difficult to balance, the Stevens is balanced better with the bipod when standing. The hardwood stock on the savage marks easily, the satin finish shows everything, grey plastic on the Stevens is indestructible. I haven't many different types of ammo with the Savage yet but using Hornady 15.5gr I shot a 10 round group I could cover with a toonie. The Stevens wasn't quite that good but as long as I avoided vmax rounds I was happy with it accuracy wise. CCI TNTs were best.
Kind of wish I hadn't agreed to sell the Stevens but I would have to choose the Savage because of the trigger if I can only have one. The Bass Pro in Calgary had half a dozen 93r17 TRs on Friday night when I was there, don't know where the OP is.
