I Have a Savage model 10 FCP in .308 that is and has been out for warranty work off and on for the last 3 years. Will not extract fired cases. I just received a call from Savage Canada and they offered to replace the gun with a new 10/110 FCP HS Precision in .308. My concern is this, it is the new style with the Savage flush mount mag and bottom metal. The one they offer the replacement for has the Accurate Mag and bottom metal.

I have already purchased a few of the Accurate Mags in 10 round and 5 round. So they won't fit the new rifle.

I have read both good things and bad things about the newer rifle. which one should I believe?

Looking at the Savage web site what the HS would replace looks more like a 10 FCP-SR ht tp://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/10FCPSR

HS is this one http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/10FCPHS

I have been told that the warranty place is waiting on a new Savage Barrel and cannot give a time frame for delivery. hence the offer to replace the whole rifle.

I cannot even tell if Savage still offers the ht tp://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/10FCPSR as it shows a 2012 date on their web site.

I didn't give them a answer but put it off and gave them 2 months to see if barrel shows up.

So I guess I am asking is this a good deal or not?

One thing to consider is I already have a match grade barrel on order from Pac-Nor for the original Rifle. Which I won't be stuck with as it can go on one of the other Savage's I own.

I am curious about the opinion's of the many knowledgeable people on gunnut's. I await your opinions.

I just quickly read through your post and I will admit that I know next to nothing about Savage's or the differences between them. However, from what I understand... the gun they want to replace doesn't work for you to begin with. If they are going to take a gun that has had consistent problems and give you a new one, I'd take that deal.

Same. Get rid of the problem gun. Take the new one. Sell your extra mags that won't fit on the EE, and if the new gun is not to your liking, sell it too, take the cash and get something you want.

peace.

take the deal and run. Any time you can ditch a money pit, and get even steven , you should do it. Sell extra mags on EE and life is golden. Sell the gun too and buy the gun you want with the cash. JMHO

Just for the HS stock that would be a no brainer for me!
Sell your mags!!!!!

The HS FCP Stock is way better than the stock on your current rifle. I have 2 rifles in those HS stocks and FWIW I really like them.

Yes you get a flush mag. But you could sell the mags you have. There are companys that make extended mags for that HS FCP stock. The ones I am thinking of might not look quite as cool as the mags in your current rifle but the HS stock will shoot better off bags or off a bipod so who cares.

Thank you all for your opinions. I have never actually seen the FCP-HS. However During My research on various gun Forums What I am seeing is this. Most of Savage newer offerings In the FCP/FP etc. all are Being bad mouthed for going cheap ie plastic mags/feeding issues/extraction issues. The only thing that stands out is the majority shoot well. I have at this point in time 3 Savages a 10 BAS-t in .308 very fine shooter but HEAVY. No feeding issues and no Extraction Issues. A 10 fcp-? in .308 it is the model that preceded the FCP-SR.
It is a great shooter but has had extraction issues from the start Has been out for warranty 3 or 4 times. it kept coming back worse each time. That is the one they want to replace. It is still out on Warranty waiting on a Barrel. I picked up a 10 FCP-SR after I last sent the problem rifle back the last time. Again it is a great shooter. as well. At the same time I ordered a PAC-NOR barrel as quite frankly I had lost all convince In the warranty place. So between the reports on the latest Savages The plastic mag issues I am really reluctant. to accept the offer. It would be nice if I could actually have one in my hands to see if it appealed or not. I guess I am reluctant to maybe exchange one problem for an other. At the moment I am going to give Savage a bit of time and see if their barrel shows up.

They are willing to trade up for a rifle that is $500ish more expensive than your original, at no cost to you? Thats a pretty decent deal. No comparison between a savage injection molded stock and an hs stock.

Actually when I bought the original It listed at around $1600 and I got it at $1300. plus tax's.

Take the HS, great gun!
EDIT: tell them you want a couple mags because you already had a couple to fit the faulty rifle!

You could get an MDT chassis for your new gun, sell the new stock as people seem to like them. Then you have your AICS accurate mags and a new rifle in an awesome Canadian made chassis. Or just get the bottom metal for that mag.

Take the HS. To address the mag issue. The stock 4 rnd mags for it work fine. That being said if you want a 10 rnd mag for it that will work for it, it will cost you close to 100$ a mag.

If you think you want 2 or more 10rnd mags for your rifle, it would be better to take the HS keep your mags and buy a aftermarket bottom metal.

Take the HS. Amazine stock and far superior to the flexible "accustock". This is a real stiff stock!

You can do what I'm doing and get an Atlaswork or PTG AICS based DBM.

Damn near perfect rifle.
