Hi everyone. a bit less than a year ago I bought a Canadian made Savage 64 for a fun plinker. I am very happy with the rifle; I got one 10 round mag with it, and bought a second one. Both feed and function 100%, 100% of the time.

I bought a 20 round mag and have had nothing but trouble with it since I picked up up last winter. 15 round it feeds fine; fill it and the first 5 or 6 jam every time. I filled it up and let it sit for 3 months, then tried it with three different kinds of ammo; same s**tty results.

Mag was made in Canada so I followed their on line instructions and shipped it to their repair center in Lakefield. A month went by and it came back today. They did nothing to it because my note was still wrapped around it; no note, nothing in the package with it, no explanation.

Even if they don't warranty mags, a note saying that would have been nice.

Maybe hiring has been difficult there and they have been unable to get literate staff? LOL

Anyway, I won't be sending them anything for repair ever again with that level of communication.

I will keep the speed loader and may offer it on the ee for some ambitious person to try and work with it. The plastic shell on it seems to be sonic welded so I don't see anyway to open it up and do anything with it. Darn mag was more than 1/4 the price of the rifle.

Thanks for the warning, I was considering getting one of those. I have a couple of the 25s for the rotary mags and no probs. I have 2x 64s and have about 12 mags, got a bunch on sale a couple years ago. So aside from having to switch more often I'm in good shape w/o buying a 20x. Prob with the 10s is that the lips wear out after a few hundred rounds and I have to "tap 'em " with a hammer to keep 'em running.

I strongly urge my customers to avoide savage firearm purchases, quality control is none existing, warranty/repairs can take up to a year ,

Even the 10s at regular price are cheap (priced cz mags lately? LOL). The reason I tried the 20 was a few of us are contemplating a ".22 rimfire "Two Gun" style fun league with .22 pistol and .22 Semi Auto carbine or rifle. Larger capacity mags would definitely be advantageous for this. The tried and true Savage 64 for the money is not a bad choice for me considering I have no other use for a semi-auto .22.

Again, as I posted above, there is nothing wrong with the rifle. It shoots reliably and well. New 1022s from what I have seen, have more feeding issues; and no stock mags available over 10 rounds... and they cost almost 3 x as much.

In my experience, there are few companies that actually have good warranty service in Canada.

About 6 months ago I was in a Walmart in the US in Indiana I think. Most (more than a dozen) of the .22 at their gun counter were Canadian Built Savage 64s and MK IIs. The basic 64 was on sale for $129.00. There were two 1022s. I talked to they guy who told me that these rifles were "Made In America". I told him to take one down and look on the barrel; "Made in Canada"; he took the box down, it had american flags on it and said "Made in America"; I laughed and said at least the box is domestic. LOL. He told me that they sell hundreds every year out of that one store.

I had to grind the plastic around the 20 shot mag down a bit so it would lock into my 64. It is the 64 TR-SR with Boyd's stock and the stock must be slightly deeper. But mag functions perfectly and it shoots better than the browning buckmark I was plinking with previously.

I have read other good reviews before i bought it, and the tens ran perfectly. Mine must be a dud.

Over 10-years ago I emailed Savage in USA about the mags in the 64 wearing out, and I attached pics of the 3x-mags with JB-weld on the 'latching-side' to hold them 'locked-in'. The lady I dealt with sent me 3x New mags to replace the 3-worn ones ! Then a couple years later I phoned Savage in Lakefield and talked with a CS rep about a worn firing pin - prob from dry-fires - and he sent me 2x replacements. Maybe if you contact Lakefield directly they'd do something? It's hard to get thru since the phone numbers now 'switch' to USA CustService - I had to look up the Lakefield phone number with google, but I didn't write it down.

I have nothing but great experiences with Savage warranty.

I have had two rifles I have asked to buy new extractors or ejectors. Both were out of warranty and had thousands of rounds through. I simply emailed in and they responded same day asking for an address to ship the parts too free of charge.

Maybe that was then, this is now. Followed the instructions I found on their website on line. Followed them to the letter; they sent it back having done nothing with no note, but in a new package from Savage Canada. At least they sent it back. I am now going to try and open it up to see if I can fix it. I won't be buying anything from Savage in the future though.

I've also had great service from Savage...from the USA too !!

IE... Had a problem with a bolt band on a 22 ...sent me a new one, free. I got a couple or 3 ..22 LR firing pins as well as one for 17HMR ! All free gratis !

Called to get a replacement 17 HMR mag for my stainless MKII. Spreading of the walls/lips caused it to MT itself out after loading it, sometimes after it was inserted into the mag well. ..they sent me a new one, albeit a blued one.
I called them back and offered to ship it back to them on my dime to get the correct one...no way ! They owned up and told me to keep the black one too and promptly sent my new stainless one !

Years after the Stevens 200 were discontinued...I was looking locally for a couple new receiver screws. Couldn't find that thread pitch any where near me, including the big box bolt/screw makers...once again I called to see if I could purchase two forward and two rear screws....they sent me 4 new ones...free of charge !

I'll personally never have anything bad to say about Savage Arms because of how good I was treated by them ! It has been a few years since, but still the fact remains the same.

I don’t know what to say My second dealing with savage warranty was actually the day of my posting. So can’t get much more recent than that. I was only posting here as I came to praise savage after a second phenominal good experience and seen your post and figured I’d post my experience here rather than start another thread.

All I did was go to there web site filed in the parts or service request email form, I was simply polite explained the issues I had. What I had tried and what I felt was needed. I then hit send. Within an hour I received an email from savage requesting I send them an address for them to ship the parts too. Short simple pleasant and in my books phenominal service.

I have two Savages, one a .22 and the other a .308 and I've never had to use their warranty as both guns are great. The little .22 mags are definitely a bit on the cheesy side but they have always worked for me.

The small ones I have work 100%, the 20 rounder was/is the issue. I tried reworking it by opening up the feed ramp a bit, and now it is worse. I am giving up on the 20 rounder. I shipped it to them once and now have about the price of it in my frustrated time and it's shipping to Lakefield. She's landfill.

Savage 64 was my first plinker.

Nothing really bad to say about it but I have noticed that large capacity mags and Savages in 22LR can be an issue.

I have experienced issues with the OEM A22 25rd mag, too.

I tried several times to get a new extractor from savage. Very polite on the phone and email. Promised me the parts. Never got them. Gave up on savage as it was a difficult time in my life and got one from a great cgn member

Few years ago the ejector on my savage 64 takedown disappeared on the range. Screw came out and the ejector along with..
Called savage and not one but a total of 5 screws and ejectors showed up in the mailbox in a week....
Savage mags suck period though. Good luck to all.

Give is a try anyways. Sent my Kriss 22 to NS warranty, got a note back that they tested and found nothing wrong. Interestingly enough the gun now works....

Email Mat Phelan at: mphelan@savagecanada.com

He is their senior gunsmith on staff, never had an issue with Savage Canada Warranty, always 100%.

People who do not follow up on their warranty requests are only hurting themselves. We no longer live in a world where everything works as it should, lots of mistakes by employees.

As a retired gun shop dealer, I sold five Savage firearms to every other manufacturer, Henry took a close second when they are available. I would recommend Savage guns to anyone, just follow up on your warranty concerns.

Just because a few folks have had issues with a certain firearms manufactures, does not make that manufacturer bad. Make your own choice!.....:)

I followed your suggestion and sent Matt an email outlining the issues and the previous experience with Savage; I await his reply. If I can get it running it's a keeper; if not, it is time to send it down the road.

Thanks for the info.
