Savage, when did it go from the gun to meh?

My first actual was a 110 left hand 308 made in 59 or thereabouts. It is a quality bolt rifle with nice deep bluing and quality machining. I've had and still do have a few others. They aren't up to the same quality but they all shoot good.
 
I would be ashamed to be seen with a Savage bolt gun, compared to my Tikka’s, Ruger 77’s or Model 70’s
 
Most all the Savage bolt actions that I have seen are far more accurate than the people using them . They may not be flashy , but most seem to shoot like lasers in comparison to many of the more expensive rifles on the market .

consensus has been slower twists are not so good for heavier like the 75, your does ok it seems

Had an older axis and it shot like crap, then tried an Axis II and got the recipe nailed so like it far better
 
Who is buying the high end 110’s with whatever us trendy strapped to them?

Objectively there ultralights etc represent a good deal, but you would think guys dropping over 2k would want another option in that price range…

Seems like the impulse was a total flop. Production issues? Price? Weight? Never read an unpaid positive review besides USOG and he seems to like everything
 
I bought a 110 ultralight, mostly for the CFW barrel.
It handle’s really nice.
Cost me $1900
Next option up would’ve cost me approximately $3000 +
 
I currently have a 110 tactical in 6.5 CM. A simple range gun. Love the trigger, takes 10 round mags like a champ and shoots sub MOA right out of the box. Ya the bolt throw is a bit long and clunky but the trigger, accustock and accufit stock options more than make up for the action. Under $1000 1000m range gun is rare. Compared to the action on my Tikka it's a bit rough but it does the job.
 
Have nothing bad to say about Savage center fire's. Every one of many has shot way better than they should. Have bought a few that wouldn't shoot but were just horribly fouled. A proper scrub verified with a bore scope and good to go. Typically require more thorough cleanings as the barrels can be rough.
Have enough but will buy more no doubt.
 
Their quality and quality control has gone to hell in recent years, was a fan not that long ago, now like most firearms produced in recent times are nothing but mass produced overpriced junk.
 
My experience's are similar to most here.

- Have a 93 17hmr that's a tac driver for what it is
- Bought a used axis 223 ($300) that shot better than is should with a $100 scope. Sold it just because the cheap pop can feel didn't do anything for me.
- Shot a friends 10 22-250 that absolutely amazed me with its accuracy
- 340 222 thats nothing fancy but shoots decent
Nothing really wrong with any of them. I've had other budget guns (783, xl7, American) that are similar quality and most been sold off because I've realized I like guns with nice character/finish/workmanship.
You get what you pay for I guess still applies
