Just got into the world of larger calibre rifles for hunting and after a trip to Elwood Epps I came back with a possibly impulsive buy. It's a Savage 16FLSS .308 (left hand bolt) in excellent condition aside from a few scratches on the plastic stock (rifle is new so should I assume it is a accu-stock?). It has a chromed barrel with the rifling looking almost untouched, Savage emblem on the bolt is slightly faded in a high wear part.

Already installed was a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40 scope on Burris mounts and rings (guy in the shop said the mount and rings were of high quality).

Scope also came with Butler Creek flip up dust covers. I bought all of this for $593 after the gentleman at the counter knocked off $25.

Was it a good deal or was I too impulsive? I came looking for another rifle listed on the site but wasn't really satisfied by it so this was the next rifle handed to me.

Well a 16FLSS is a relatively inexpensive (that doesn't say cheap, and don't confuse the two)rifle but that seems a very reasonable price. Unlikely it's accustock as I don't believe the IBM Savage LH is available with accustock. What I would be more concerned with is the orange colour there appears to be on the bolt face, parts of the action, and the barrel nut. Might just be a trick of the light, but if not, strip that sucker down, get it well cleared, get any of that corrosion off (try silicone cloths or wipes), clean the barrel, and give the whole thing a light oiling with high quality gun oil. They are good shooting rifles and I'm sure you will be happy with it.

Oh and once you get used to it...you're gonna love the trigger. At least mine have been crisp, break like glass, easily adjustable, and plus they give me a warm fuzzy feeling inside knowing I'm supporting a company that innovates and sells a fantastic product, at a very fair price.

On my savage 16 you can see the accustock with the barrel on. Just look at the crack between the barrel and the stock. No aluminum means no accustock. I paid 800 for mine brand new. Mine has a removeable mag though. You got yours for a good price.

I would say that you got a great deal.I was at epps last weekend and ordered the same gun in 243 calibre and paid $664.00 for just the gun.

Yes it is a great deal. It is old stock perhaps 2005, not a centerfeed either. Still a very good deal for a stainless rifle with a 3200 scope on it.

you got ripped off, the bolt handle is on the wrong side of the rifle:D:D

no, seriously, you got a good if not great deal.

lefties are often more expensive than normal ones ( righties ):D

plus it's stainless and got a 3200 on it.

as long as the rust is not too severe, you got a great deal.

on the EE, you would have easily paid 700-750$ for the same rifle :D

well the rifles can be had for 650 or so brand new and another 250 for the scope gets you to 900 if it were brand new...used you drop 20% - 40% off that...and even at that it's a smoking deal, I suspect because of the rust bits, and the fact that the accustock makes the non-accustock models a little less desirable. But enough of this yak yak yak...where is the range report!?!
