I was on the Savage website earlier today and aimlessly went over to the gun finder and went to caliber. I then scrolled through, saw 338 Federal, and clicked on it. To my surprise 6 firearms models appeared:

Hog Hunter, Trophy Hunter XP, Stainless Trophy Hunter XP, Weather Warrior, Bear Hunter, and Long Range Hunter. I am especially interested in a Hog Hunter in 338 Fed.

These appear relatively new and I could not find them for sale anywhere in this caliber.

Here is the cartridge line-up for the "Long Range Hunter"... the only cartridge that doesn't make sense for this particular platform is the. 338 Fed;

260 REM

300 WIN MAG

300 WSM

308 WIN

338 FEDERAL (Long Range???)

338 LAPUA MAG

6.5 CREEDMOOR

6.5 x 284 NORMA

7MM REM MAG

I really like the Fed and have it in a Hawkeye All-Weather, but it certainly is not what one would consider a "long range" option.

I was thinking the same thing.

I believe they have discontinued the hog hunter in 338 win mag in favour of the 338 federal.

Lucky I got mine in 338 win mag, does this mean I can sell it on the EE as "rare"

You can sell anything on the EE as "rare." In fact it is "rare" when one is not sold as "rare," but then again some are actually "rare..."

Savage site has the hog hunter in 338 federal listed as 2 for ammo capacity but the 308 gets 4. Something not right there
The bear hunter has it listed as 2 shot for the fed and 3 shot for the 338 wm as well
