6 months new to shooting. Love it. Only problem is that each time I go to the range I am easily blazing through 200 rounds of store bought ammo. 9mm, 38 special and 357 mag. Reloading is in my near future.
Question: should I be saving all the store bought brass that I have been sweeping into the bin each time? Can they be used for reloading?

Save it!
You can sell it it trade it for.... Ammo!
Or at least give it to someone that can use it.
I just dug almost 200 pieces of once fired 30-06 brass out of the range garbage can (not brass bin) I was both disappointed and excited at the same time. Was about to buy some.
Be courteous and put it aside if you don't want it.

if you don't use it you can always turn around and sell it off to someone who will. Worst case scenario is you go sell it for what.. 2.50$/lb as scrap.

keep all your brass!

I've been known to crawl on my hands and knees for hours on a vacant firing line to salvage 10mm brass. 9mm is cheap enough so if you lose some, it's no big deal. Revolver brass is no excuse... dump it into a baggie once you finish your cylinder. :p

hell i have been saving some brass for a while now. I don't have many guns so its usually for my friends guns (308) so when i finely get my 308 and into reloading i got one part covered.

When at the range I collect all my brass and also, ask other shooters (when they are done shooting of course) if they want their brass. Often, they dont. And if that brass if for a firearm that I dont currently reload for, I will give it to a friend that does. Friends of mine will reciprocate. Brass has value.

No, your store bought brass cannot be used for reloading. Reload ers use special brass that doesn't come from a store. Once the brass touches the ground it is irrevocably damaged and can never be used again.

Which is my way of pointing out that you have asked a faarcking stupid question.

I used to either leave it behind or give it away for many years, now I'm starting to save it. I bet by next winter I have tons of of brass to reload.
