A couple weeks ago I had up for sale a Carcano on EE(Of course you guys were quick at "NOT BUYING IT").
Anyways I got a couple PMs, the usual, some wanted it but no money, then the usual tire kickers and so on; but then I get the "weirdest" question of them all, a question I could not find an answer to...
"What would need to be done in order for this gun to be sporterized?"

I am thinking, WTF? Who can ask such a question? Maybe someone who is absolutelly clueless about milsurps, a Lieberal Troll or just a GCNer trying to be a smartass.:rolleyes:
 
They are so light, why would you want to make them lighter?

Sounds like someone looking for a cheap deer rifle.

Yeah well the "cheap" in the term "cheap deer rifle" will quickly evaporate the first time bubba has to buy factory ammo...

Ehh. Carcano's are junk. Hahahaha.
I MAY buy one some day, but only if it's in absolutely immaculate condition, and it looks as though most Italian war period firearms are in worse shape than a junkyard.

I'm not really too upset by the thought of someone sporterizing this example.
Hell, if they really wanted to, they should go out and modify a synthetic stock to fit. More rugged that way anyways.

I had one in Australia back in the 1970s the thing was the worst piece of crap ive ever owned and we could hit nothing with it the entire short time we had it LOL

Honestly if you cant hit a big red Kangaroo at 50 yds thats pretty bad.

maby it was the Ammo i remember the bullets were really Long sticking outa the cases.
No ofence but i wasnt to impressed.
a old worn out 303 lee enfeild ran circles around the carcano!
 
I have had 3 Carcano's, first one similiar to Oswalds, it loved 160 gr. s.p. bullets,restocked it with a Cooey mod.39 stock. Second one was a long rifle good shooter. Third one was a carbine, rebarreled with a 2 groove Lee Enfield barrel, chambered it to 7.62x39, made a nice 6 shot repeater, it shot good also.

Carcano in 7.62x39? That is a "bubba" job I don't mind that much. What's that thing shoot like? And also what stripper clips do you use to load?
 
Use Carcano clips,6.5X52 & 7.62x39 head size is the same. I used a Long Branch 2 groove barrel, LB front sight, 98 Turkish mauser open rear sight,put a block in front of mag. well so nose of ctg. will feed into chamber. I Used old military ammo of unknown mfg., shot bench rest at 100 yds.,with my eye sight open sights are a nice decoration but not very usefull. Most 3 shot groups ran 2"-3" with some flyers. Rifle was bubba'd before I got it.
 
My carcano is a great little shooter. Sounds like Dingus got a lemon. Mine is a bit beat up from being dragged back and forth accross N.Africa but I took it out for a day this past year for a quick deer hunt (My 7mm-.08 was with my dad and so was my .30-30 and so were all the shells for my .303).

ANyway I had one running smash at a little buck that my friend had shot (it was well hit but took off running anyway). I have no qualms about using my 6.5 carcano for whitetail here in Ontario. I just stick to shots I can make with the open sights, which despite being fixed are probably the clearest non-apeture sights I have on a milsurp. Much more point and shoot accurate than those on my K98k's or Mosin/SVT.

If I could grab one cheap that was already sporterized I'd throw a scope on it in a second and use it for deer backup.
 
I've got a bunch of Carcanos both original and sporterized, and have been a big defender of it from a safety perspective. The action is very strong. I have also noted that the 100+ year old 6.5x52 Carcano round looks remarkably like what modern military planners consider the ideal round for the 21st Century.

I am not however a fan of using a Carcano on which to build a hunting rifle, unless you just must have one. I'd take a sporterized No4 MkI (and in fact use one), or just about any Mauser over any Mannlicher magazine, split bridge rifle - there are just so many better choices.
 
How much where you asking for it and what sort of shape is it in? I suppose I could find a home just to save it from sporterization:D Rationalization is a wonderful thing:runaway:
