I'm a stubborn old geezer so when my old faithful Ohaus 5-0-5 fell and wouldn't hold zero I set to work. First I checked the beam for any bends but nope all good. Then I polished the knife edges of the balance and cleaned them and the agate blocks but no joy. I stared at the thing for a long time and noticed the little clip that holds the pan wasn't moving freely as it must have got bent in the fall. I straightened it up using the Mark 1 eyeball and the old girl was at work again as good as it was 30 years ago. Here's the piece that gave me grief.
