I'm a stubborn old geezer so when my old faithful Ohaus 5-0-5 fell and wouldn't hold zero I set to work. First I checked the beam for any bends but nope all good. Then I polished the knife edges of the balance and cleaned them and the agate blocks but no joy. I stared at the thing for a long time and noticed the little clip that holds the pan wasn't moving freely as it must have got bent in the fall. I straightened it up using the Mark 1 eyeball and the old girl was at work again as good as it was 30 years ago. Here's the piece that gave me grief.

Glad to see I'm not the only stubborn old geezer that still has and uses his old Lyman Ohaus scale. It's a reloading tool I've had since I started reloading, :d more than a few years back. A while back I did a bit of an upgrade and purchased an RCBS 1500 ChargeMaster combo. Works well, but on occasion I still ;) check its accuracy, with the old Lyman Ohaus :) .

Wow. Talk about the little things messing you up.

The nicest thing about these scales: never need to change the battery! ;-})>

I have the same scale Ohaus 505 and the Chargemaster RCBS, still do checks using the Ohaus scale. I've found the Ohaus scale, an RCBS powder measure and trickler are quicker and more accurate than the Chargemaster. Don't use the Chargemaster much, sometimes weigh brass and bullets for shoots but that's about it. Still have the Ohaus original box with price tag 22.99 that was a while back.

I used good electronic balances at work but even the good ones could be finicky when first started up, I've always liked mechanical things where problems can be visually solved or at least identified.
