Saving up for a Colt Python

Now the prices on Python's have just gone way beyond stupid. If you want one & have the $$ to pay for it though, then why not go for it?

Life's too short not to have a Python, if that's what you really want. With a little time and some patience, you can get a nice one. The heck with the cost.:d

Hmmmm....Armco has a prohib Python for $1790 [it's been there for quite a while...trades or negotiation might be possible] and I saw a 6" Python barrel for sale someplace for $1000 [you could probably find it].

Sorry...that's not much help for you. Personally, I'd get a Smith 586 and have a trigger job done on it.

What surprises me as much is how the King Cobras have gone up by association to the Python. Folks seem to think these are basically Pythons without the polish and vented rib. They're not. These where half the price of Pythons when new, with reason, and some are now selling mid 2Ks and more for BSS. Granted they are discontinued and people want full snake collections so who am I to argue with the free market ;-)

A friend offered me his 4" nickel Python for $600. I'm not really a fan of their stacking triggers and the grip shape is just awful. They don't sit in the hand naturally at all. I don't need to own a gun I won't shoot.

They are a beautiful firearm, but a Smith 27-2 is just as nice and far cheaper.

Well, I currently have 7 Pythons, and 3 Model 27-2s....a mix of blue, nickel, and one bright stainless that should be in the mail soon. The 27-2 is a fantastic gun, no question about it, and I plan on keeping my eyes open for more. But to say it is 'just as nice'....I would have to disagree. The action on all my Pythons is better, my Custom shop tuned Python is so far superior it can't even be compared to any of my 27s. The finish is comparable, but still not as nice a polish as the Pythons. And the last 'nice' is subjective. Looks and balance. I find the Python to be more attractive with the full underlug, and the vented rib just gives it that special and distinct Python at a glance look....in the hand, I find it more balance than the 27-2. As for accuracy, both are far more accurate than I will ever be able to get out of them....they are both fantastic guns, but in my opinion the Python is the better gun by a margin. The 27-2 is the better buy dollar for dollar. But if you can afford to get a Python, you should. And yes, the prices are stupid. But whatever you buy today, (assuming you don't get really suckered) will only go up tomorrow. So get one of each, shoot them, enjoy them, you won't lose money on them.

Grips can be easily changed out........

Keep to SA and life is just grand. Besides, hardly anyone often shoots DA with their Colt revolver these days. Not very many Colt trained gunsmiths in this country.

And I would venture to guess very few Python owners feed their nice sixguns a steady diet of magnum loads. Lots of 38 at the worst.......

the prices are insane on these....... before you know it colt will start to manufacture these again due to high demand..... then all the people who bought them for 2k plus will be shocked...prices will drop.i seen one in EE for a staggering 6000$ and it was blued!!!!...same kinda deal when tactical imports brought in the cz scorpion...they use to be 1500$ due to rarity now u can score one on EE for 700$

No offence intended, but your hypothesis that Colt will somehow magically tool up and reproduce the Python once again is pretty outrageous.

I've got some. If you got'em they are priceless. If you don't they are priced stupid. My advice, if you have the itch for one
overpay for a beauty and let it sit. At worst you overpayed in the short term, at best..... well you get it.

I have never truly felt the desire to purchase a Python. My Colt Model 357 fulfills that need just fine and much extra cash was left over for other goodies. ;)
357's are now worth close to Pythons. In fact they may eventually outprice them! They are far more exclusive as far as production numbers and share the same action qualities.
I have a "Shooter" that I literally bought just for the 1st generation type grips. Do the usual google search for more info. I snap up any that come up. That explains my single purchase in the last few years.
