So I was at the Cabelas early opening in Barrie last Wednesday.

I was standing near the checkout waiting to be rang through. I was looking at the pistol display cas, and something caught my eye. A glock 17 competition model with a cut out slide. I didn't know there was such a thing. If it wasn't so busy I would have asked about it.

Now that I'm looking around the web for some more info, I can't find diddly squat.

Does anyone know anything about a G17 comp model??

Taran tactical is the gold standard for glock upgrades. No need to make an already light gun even lighter, it screws up reliability. Check out tarans ultimate package for glock 17.

I've shot a few 17c's and I have to say they are quite loud compared to your standard 17. I would prefer a Glock 34 myself.

They are very loud compared to a non-compensated model... And you have the benefit of hot, unburned powder flipping back in your face every so often so get used to the smell of burnt hair. Alternatively, it shoots like a GD dream, and the muzzle flip is very tame.

Hahaha rhino with a dildo. That would be a hell of a battle.

Thanks for the info guys. I was all about the sig 226 for my first pistol, but now I'm feeling like I want a glock first. Too many sweet shooters, not enough pay cheque to make em all mine!

When I was there yesterday I noticed what appeared to be a 17C, until I saw that it had the cut outs on the top of the slide but didn't have a ported barrel. Anybody have any ideas what model that may have been?

Could it have been a Glock 34? There's a cutout on the top of its slde just back from the muzzle--it's there to keep the slide weight down. The barrel length is a bit longer than a G17 (about 3/4" if I remember correctly) but it could maybe look like a G17 if there was not one there to compare with.

Here's what it looks like (not my pic...when I had m 34 I guess I didn't take any pictures of the top of the slide!)

Could have been a 23C, or 19C, with an aftermarket, "Canadian legal", non-ported barrel... Or just a swapped out non-ported barrel.

here is what the top looks like, note the ported barrel.
super nice gun to shoot, very little muzzle flip compared to all my other 9mm guns.
