If you saw down a SxS break-action to an OAL of 661mm, including stock, this is legal, right?

Then you replace that stock with a bird's head grip, and you're still legal aiui.

I'm not planning on doing anything right now, but I'd like something to think about. Watched El Dorado again. Call me Mississippi.

Not really...

Barrel has to stay over 18".

OAL must also be over 660mm.

If you were 18" barrel and 660mm OAL, and then pulled off the stock and put on a shorter stock, that's a no go.

No, easy. You're thinking about restricted limitations. You can cut to 18 inches.

Here's direct from the code on prohib'd weapons in the CCC.
"prohibited firearm" means:

(snip)

( b) a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,

(i) is less than 660 mm in length, or

(ii) is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length,

BTW - most gunstores don't like to cut below 18.5 even tho it is allowed - just because they like to leave a little room for error (and what if it needs to be cut again for some reason someday, or needs to be recrowned?)

Boys, boys, boys .... you may NOT cut any barrel less than 18.5", (470mm) !! NOT 18"
The 18.5" limit applies ONLY to semi-automatics, single shot, bolt action, break action, lever, pump, falling block, etc. can legally be cut to 18".

Call the CFC and get a copy of the firearms regulations, all this information is available in them.

The 18.5" limit applies ONLY to semi-automatics,

Oops - i meant semi auto, not restricted. Gad - i've been spending too much time in politics going over dion's stupid speaches i think. :)

And the 18 1/2" limit only applies to centrefire semi autos, rimfire semis fall in with the manually operated firearms.
But the question was about a sxs. As I understand it, the barrels could be trimmed to just over 18". Then a tape measure could be hooked over the muzzles and drawn back until 26" is located. That would be the minimum overall length. But with the way the regulations and laws are being interpreted these days any opinion of mine might not be worth much.
And I REALLy hope that these alterations are not being contemplated for a fine double.

Yes, yes. I was looking at the "restricted firearm" section which is for semi-autos.

Regards.
