Saw this on frontiers site

Be assured, comrades, these guns are VERY useful. Last year my wife used my buddy's 8.5 inch 12ga for mowing the pigweeds in the garden. Hey, it worked for that! (until the wrist pain took over) It was really entertaining to watch, too.

i have shot 12 guage hammer shotguns by one handing them at the wrist of the gun ,trust me when i say it is not a smart thing to do . you will end up with a nasty gash between your thumb and forefinger when the opening lever recoils into your hand .i am a slow learner and two hands gives the same results .i cant see this gun making 26 inches o.a.l .

So if it is non will you buy me one?

If it's restricted I'll buy you one........

Do we have a bet??

I'm pretty sure they (Frontier) somehow got it classified as non-restricted, since there would be a very small market for a restricted 18" bbl pistol gripped shotgun.

I'm just curious how they are going about selling it as non-restricted. (if indeed it is)

Like I said in my first post, it must come with a full stock installed and a PG.

There is nothing special about this shotgun. Only thing is, in the configuration pictured, it is NOT over 26" OAL. So we're missing a little info here, or, it is a restricted single shot waste of money.

If its manufactured with the barrel, and grip like that from the factory, it is non-restricted

"Prohibited: sawed-off rifles or shotguns with overall length less than 660mm (26 inches); this does not apply to firearms manufactured with short stocks or short barrels"

and I decided to measure, using my DA Backpacker, Its overall length from Frontier should be about 25" judging by the picture

Go for it. OAL on the backpacker is greater then 26" ;)

When Canam ordered these shotguns (the Backpacker and Outlaw) he specifically asked for the shortest barrels possible while maintaing >26" OAL. (he said that in one of the older "sneek and peek" threads.)

With the recoil pad, I believe the outlaw came up to ~28-29" OAL. no way your backpacker is any shorter then that off the shelf.

Definition of a Restricted Firearm
According to the Criminal Code, a restricted firearm is:

-a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm;
-a semi-automatic, centre-fire rifle or shotgun with a barrel length less than 470 mm (18.5 inches) that is not prohibited;
-a rifle or shotgun that can fire when its overall length is reduced by folding, telescoping or some other means to less than 660 mm (26 inches);
-any firearm prescribed as restricted (including some long guns).

If its manufactured with the barrel, and grip like that from the factory, it is non-restricted

"Prohibited: sawed-off rifles or shotguns with overall length less than 660mm (26 inches); this does not apply to firearms manufactured with short stocks or short barrels"

Could you show me where this little gem about pistol grips is located in the regs?

These short shotguns always seem to get everyone pretty divided.
If it's non restricted and under 26'', then I think it's a good thing that our gun laws are not completely screwed and should be supported no matter how "useless" you think it is.
Besides, if someone likes it and shoots it, then it is in no way useless.

My original quote was on the cfc's website in one of the FAQs for prohibited "long guns", but of course now Im on a different computer, and what I thought I searched for doesnt turn up the same links on their site

I'm just curious why anybody would want to spend $250 on a single shot made to look like a pump when you can buy a very real, 18.5 inch barreled pump for the same money? Your going to gain what, 6 or 7 inches in length but your also going to gain 5 or 6 shots. Seems kind of silly to me. Short pump guns are very practical tools to keep in the truck or around camp. Pistol grips are not. I own one and have shot many. They are not pleasant to shoot unless your idea of defense is 7.5 clay loads. Fire a 3 inch slug or buckshot out of one and no matter how tough you are or how easy it looks on tv, it will not be a good time. Wanna aim it? Good bye front teeth. Wanna shoot from the hip like Arnold? Good luck. I tell everyone who's willing to listen thesame thing: You want a defender style shotgun? Fine. Buy a real stock so you can control it, shoot it comfortably so you get the practice you need and don't look back.

lol! I don't think any one needs to clarify the usefullness of that firearm...

I just disagreed with the "in Canada there really isn't such a thing as a home defence firearm" line.
