Saw this on frontiers site

If its manufactured with the barrel, and grip like that from the factory, it is non-restricted

"Prohibited: sawed-off rifles or shotguns with overall length less than 660mm (26 inches); this does not apply to firearms manufactured with short stocks or short barrels"

and I decided to measure, using my DA Backpacker, Its overall length from Frontier should be about 25" judging by the picture

This is the glitch no one wants to take to court. Be my guest. There is a reason Dlask issued full stocks with it 8.5" inch shotties and advised against using the pistol grips until a resolution was heard in a court of law. There were so many different answers / opinions from CFC, RCMP, CFO, etc that it became really grey as to the legality of anything...I think in the end is was illegal to wear tight underwear if you were holding the 8.5 inch shotgun with your left hand and walking in a circle. ;)

All that aside....neat looking gun, but I prefer a stock myself, hence Knoxx Specops collapsible on both my Dlask 8.5's. :D

I agree this thing is silly with the pistol grip. One needs a stock to control a firearm. But, it would have been nice if frontier bothered to answer the question for those interested.

Yep. None of us can control the pistols that we have.

Anyways, back on topic, what the hell is this thing, restricted or non restricted?

Its obviously going to be <26... so that should be restricted right?

Would you defend your home with a single shot pistol grip Shotgun?

99.999% of the robbers you might encounter with this, would instantly crap their pants when they saw it...... although with a pump, that samer percentage would crap their pants as soon as they heard you cycle the pump.

F@ck no!! I also wouldn't use it to shoot clays, hunt, ect...........
But it would be a fun toy. Truth be known I wouldn't even buy one, but if I won one in a bet (win/64) I wouldn't throw it away!!:D

Non restricted

Several of my cronies have them and use them in the bush, a nice pistol carried in a thigh or shoulder holster. Several have been modified with side saddles on the forend and pistol foregrips for fast loading and shooting.
Not much of a range gun but a perfect bush carry gun -
Very useful -

Wow, this post is so full of fail and BS its astounding. Go get yourself a second and third helping of reality. That first plate did nothing for you. Lay off the hollywood crap and seek some professional training. Most people couldn't identify a shotgun from a rubber dildo. The same percentage couldn't tell the difference between the action cycling on a pump gun and a wet fart. Aside from the clueless criminal element your tactics are piss poor. An unloaded firearm is useless. More to that, chambering a round without the intent, skill and opportunity to put the firearm into play will get you killed. Disclosing your position and status(armed or not) is not something condoned or preached anywhere. Banking on the scare factor is a weak attempt at bravado that doesn't win a fight. At best your ignorant antics will provide years of entertainment for the criminal(s) who murdered you in cold blood while acting "tough".

Pharaoh, Win64 and others had it right. This shotgun is an over priced noise maker. Get a shotgun with a stock, learn how to use it and leave the stupid sh*t to hollywood.

backpacker

I have one. It shoots really well and is quite controllable, fits nicely in a backpack or in a full length ice axe sleeve if your backpack has one. The Taurus-style pistol grip is great, sucks up recoil and even lets you fire it revolver style. barrel is ported too. The only flaw I found is the cosmetic tube that attaches to the forearm, it isn't in too tight and is only held by a wood screw, you'd better make sure it isn't loose or it'll fly out. the rest is Rossi quality and it even has a bona fide ejector. Worth $250 in my opinion. Non-restricted cuz the barrel length is 18 1/2, the 18" is approximate in the ad.

Sorry, 18.25", just measured, my bad. Just to be clear though, it ISN'T a tactical marvel and I'm not calling it that. It is a very trip-specific firearm that may help against predators in certain situations, such as where space and weight in what you are carrying might be an issue. It isn't a be-all, end-all defensive shotgun or a bird gun. It's a reasonably priced, reasonably well-made oddity that could be useful in some situations. I suspect that most of them will sell on esthetics alone. It's in the same boat as DA Backpackers and Outlaws, just made better from a reputable company. To each his own I say.

I can't imagine a situation where one shot would be sufficient. Perhaps some enjoy a challenge more than others. An 18.5" pistol grip pump gun is a far better option. Better yet, run a gun with a full stock. Ease of carry, light weight and "handy" means squat if your one and only shot misses. Something common with pistol grip shotguns. The over priced, poor handling, single shot shotgun is a false sense of security.

BTW it's non restricted due to it being a single shot I called the cfc

Well... thats interesting...

So they're throwing OAL out the window beacause it is a single shot, eh?... Hmmmm....

Well then. All we need now is some aftermarket new manufacture bbl's... maybe in the 8.5" range?

Also an interesting idea... subcal inserts. Closest thing to a non-restricted pistol as your gonna get!

While most people might be in your dildo boat, most criminals certainly know the difference between a dildo and a shotgun. Even if its not loaded, it will make a good club, although an expensive club.

for an "over priced noise maker" these backpackers certainly make large holes in plywood with some 1oz target loads

You with the Internet Tough Guy award this week, congrats

All slugs make nice holes. The real question is whether or not those holes are where you intended them to be. Nothing in my post was "tough guy" its called reality and there's plenty for all who aren't getting enough. Any bets who can make two well placed hits faster, single shot useless gun or a conventional stocked pump gun??

Regardless of whether or not "most criminals" know the difference, banking on their intelligence is a bad idea. Do tell, which professional school, dept, agency, or unit preaches and practices cycling the action as a tactic for winning a gun fight???? As for using your shotgun as a club, I have to ask. WHY?! Its a firearm, use it like one. Clubs are ancient history and no match for firearms. Suppose the "knowledeable" criminals are armed with firearms of their own. You now have your poorly balanced improvised club. Talk about tough guy routine.

Youre the one that said an unloaded firearm is useless, I pointed out that it still works an an expensive club. Everyone teaches to cycle the action in order to win a gun fight, if you dont have a shell in the chamber, you have an unloaded firearm with a full magazine.

Loaded or Unloaded the Backpacker is better in a situation against a criminal than nothing.

anyone who can make rhyme or reason out of c.f.c.decisions on the class of a firearm is some kind of a wizard in my opinion .if this gun is less than twenty six inches and unrestricted they will be doing an about face any day if they follow there usual pattern .i love backwoods assessment of the classification of short barrel shotguns . a little humour on a serious subject .

I don't know why but I just bought one of these useless SG's!
It'll share the gun cab with my other useless rifles, shotguns, pistols, etc. (that I only shoot paper with) but I can't wait to get it.
fyi...Frontier confirmed it is non-restricted with an oal of 23.5". The 26"oal doesn't apply 'cause it's a single-shot.
I should get rid of all my useless stuff one day including my Harley because it doesn't make sense to own a motorcycle in Canada:rolleyes:
