Is there a reason you dont see short over and unders?

I found this online and think it looks awesome

You probably don't see many because most people aren't willing to bastardize a $1000-$2000 gun. They do look kinda neat though.

Not all O\Us cost a ton of money... Biggest issue is getting both barrels to put slugs and shot in the same area after cutting the barrel. No experience with it myself but a neat idea.

The barrel bores should be regulated enough even at this length to put slugs in the same or pretty close to the same spot if the ends are finished square to the bores. And even with buck the patterning won't be TOO bad out to moderate distances. But shooting bird out of that thing would be similar to spray painting with a lawn sprinkler... :D

My 870 Express shoots slugs just fine to POA and buck groups nicely out to around 15'ish yards. But target loads are pretty much and "all body" pattern at even 7 to 8 yards. This cut down project would be much the same I'm sure.

It would be an interesting project if you can find a cheapie O/U that maybe is priced even less due to some end of barrel damage or damage to the shoulder stock.

I'm still a SxS guy though. And it doesn't hurt that SxS's are cheaper to buy if you want to do this sort of trick to them.

A nice handling O/U or double is balanced properly, between the hands, cut the barrels down too much and you loose that balance. If you shoot enough waterfowl, Trap, Skeet, Sporting, etc. you will appreciate a well balanced gun with alot of weight out front to help smooth out your swing and follow through. You loose all of that with too short a barrel, there is a reason why folks that shoot these sports/games use 30-34" barreled guns. In addition, short barrels cause increase noise and recoil.

Do you own any hammerless shotguns? They usually #### on opening, and the extractor/ejector mechanism too and while a 30 incher is very easy to pop, because of the great leverage, the one you've shown might require the forearm strength of a mountain gorilla, if chambered in twelve gauge, especially one of the cheaper guns that would be likely to get the chop treatment.

What do you mean "Why don't we see more of these." I do see them, gangstas robbing liquor stores, defending their appartment blocks from rival dealers, and drive by backup.

When they break and enter and steal your guns, they always saw them off so you do see $2000 and even $10000 guns configured like you specified. The reason why YOU do not see them, is because you are not an aforementioned gangbanger.

It does look sweet, but I wouldn't do it. I would prefer a pump shorty for the extra magazine capacity. Double guns are meant to be long beautiful works of art.

I bulged a barrel on my o/u an cut it back for a walking gun when I take the dogs out in the bush.
In the west coast rain forest the distance for safety is sometime only feet, this Italian made for the UK it says on the barrel, does not go on safety when closing the action so in a panic reload just fire two quick like.

It does look preaty cool, but to be NR it would have to be 26", an 870 with a 18" barrel, extended mag and a pistol grip would have similar dimensions, and carry more ammo.
I wouldn't buy one, but if I had a O/U with a demaged barrel and stock, I'd propably make one like that.

Hey guys go to Stoger Canada and look up over under called the "outback " . 20 inch barrels kinda rifle sites , full stock . A coach gun for the stack barrel crowd .

.

Hyperbole much?

I wouldn't want any SxS or o/u with a barrel shorter than 18" and it's gotta have a full length stock.
And I personally think the one in the picture looks way worse then a SxS of similar length.

I was watching The Fast and Furious last night, and the trucker had a o/u in his truck defending himself.
